Podcast Recommendations, Part XI.

Hey there! I’m honestly a little bit happy it’s Monday — I feel like I’ve been in a bit of a funk lately, and I’m thankful that today feels like a fresh start. Right now, I don’t have a lot planned this week, but that just means I can do whatever I want!

On Friday night, I went to the yoga studio and completed 108 sun salutations in honor of the new moon. If you’re familiar with yoga, you know that 108 sun salutations is A LOT of work — and trust me, I was feeling it all weekend. But this ritual is said to bring about renewal, rebirth… and it’s often done for a new season, a new moon, a new year, and I can only think that I’m reaping those benefits right now.

Anyway, if you’re in need of some audio entertainment today, I’m happy to bring you four more podcast recommendations!

10 Things to Tell You

I came across this podcast because I follow the host, Laura Tremaine, on Instagram and Twitter. Here is the scoop from the podcast’s website:

The 10 Things To Tell You podcast is a weekly show about digging deep and sharing your stuff. Each week there’s a prompt and a discussion for you to take to your journal, text your best friend, or post on social media.

It’s a lite podcast, the episodes are fairly short and each one discusses a single topic such as, where you’re from, or how do you find time to read? These are supposed to be prompts for a journal, social media, or a discussion.

Dr. Death

I finished listening to “Cold” and I needed something else to guiltily binge on — “Dr. Death” it is! Here’s the description from Wondery:

We’re at our most vulnerable when we go to our doctors. We trust the person at the other end of that scalpel. We trust the hospital. We trust the system. Dr. Christopher Duntsch was a neurosurgeon who radiated confidence. He claimed he was the best in Dallas. If you had back pain, and had tried everything else, Dr. Duntsch could give you the spine surgery that would take your pain away. But soon his patients started to experience complications. And all they had to protect them was a system ill equipped to stop the madness. From Wondery, the network behind the hit podcast Dirty John, DR. DEATH is about a medical system that failed to protect these patients at every possible turn. Reported and hosted by Laura Beil.

I’ll say two things right off the bat: it’s a bit graphic, so know that if you’re squimish. And two, it’s NOT as frightening as “Cold” or “Dirty John” — the reporting is less aggressive and the music isn’t creepy. The story though, is quite terrifying.

Reports from late 2018 say this is being made into a TV show.

Ride, Read, Discuss

I came across this because I follow @booksonthesubway on Instagram and it’s one of my favorite places to get ideas on what to read next. Here’s the scoop:

Ride, Read, Discuss is a podcast hosted by Rosy and Hollie, the creators of Books on the Subway. Focussing on not only books, but powerful stories and making connections in New York City. Hear about everything from your favorite authors down to some of the weirdest experiences on the subway.

This podcast talks about how they started Books on the Subway, how they decide what books to use, along with discussions with authors, readers, and even people who’ve picked up some of the subway books! It’s a fun one if you like to read.

Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness

I started listening to this one after seeing it on another blogger’s podcast roundup. I haven’t listened to every episode, but I’ve listened to the ones with celebs/experts I like. Here’s what it’s about:

A weekly exploration of all the things Jonathan Van Ness (Queer Eye, Gay of Thrones) is curious about. Come on a journey with Jonathan and experts in their respective fields as they get curious about anything and everything under the sun.

So there you have it! I got another recommendation over the weekend (“To Live and Die in LA”, if you’re curious) and will start listening to it once I finish “Dr. Death”. I’d love to know what you’re listening to!
