December Charity: US Chess Federation.

It’s difficult to fathom that 2022 is coming to a close, and I’ve made my final charitable donation for the year!

Going into the year, I wanted to put my money where my mouth was. I have always thought of myself as a giving, charitable person, but yet, I wasn’t making a consistent effort to actually do that.

My original plan was to pick a charity to give a monthly donation to. But I quickly realized that was an impossible decision! There are just too many causes I feel strongly toward.

So, I told myself I’d research and donate to a cause I felt pulled to each month.

And now, the year is coming to an end, and I’ve given to 12 charities — many of which I didn’t know about beforehand!

For the final month of the year, I wanted to honor my dad by donating to the US Chess Federation.

He was a competitive chess player, and even while he was in the hospital, he played online with opponents around the globe. When he got sick, he told us the one rule: if he couldn’t move a chess piece, DNR.

A chess player until the end, truly.

Donating to the US Chess Federation helps to expand the game and chess partnerships, along with growing chess curricula in school and as an after-school activity.

I know the game meant so much to my dad, and it means so much to players, young and old.

I’m grateful to have been in a position to give this year, even just a small amount.

Thank you for reading about my charitable donations this year — I will be continuing this journey in 2023!
