How to create a personal mantra.

Last year, I really wanted to learn more about meditation and creating positive energy around myself. Since then, I’ve learned so much and have been able to use yoga and meditation to better my life and help my mindset.

One of the things that helps me is a personal mantra. I use mantras when I’m trying to focus and breathe, when I’m trying to motivate myself to do something, when I feel like I need to put a certain energy or message into the universe, or when I just need to calm down.

For my mantras, they are usually just phrases that work for me in the moment. At yoga, I often just repeat “Focus”. For motivation and energy, I say “Ask. Believe. Achieve.”

But, how do you create a personal mantra that works for you? It’s not as difficult as you might think.

When it comes to personal mantras, there is no wrong answer. You want it to be something that resonates with you, or possibly relates to something you want to overcome.

If you’re working on building confidence, it could be something along the lines of: I can do anything I set out to do, I am beautiful how I am, I am enough, I am strong, etc.

If you’re unsure of what you want to focus on, take a look back through journals and see if anything stands out. If you’re not into journaling, take 30 minutes and just start writing. Go with no expectations and see what comes to the surface.

You also don’t have to limit it to one mantra if more than one message is standing out to you — many people use different mantras for different reasons, even different seasons. It’s all about whatever works for you.

Once you’ve created at least one mantra, do something with it. Maybe you write it down in your journal, in your planner, or stick it on a post-it note beside your front door.

Of course, you can go all out, too — lipstick on your mirror, paint it on a t-shirt, have it embroidered on your favorite bag — anything!

It’s also important to remember that you don’t have to commit to a specific mantra forever. Once it serves you, maybe you move on to another one, or maybe you always stick with the same one.

It’s all up to you!

If you already have a personal mantra, I would love to know what it is, if you’re willing to share it.

Yes, take it! I truly believe putting positive messages into the universe changes things! A yoga instructor of mine uses “I am worthy” (during inhale) “Of my wildest dreams” (during exhale). It could even be as simple as, YOU GO GIRL!
