Blanche’s Book Club: ‘Crazy Rich Asians’.

Has this week been hectic for everyone?! I was running errands yesterday, and even during a time of day when I thought it wouldn’t be so busy, everywhere I went was PACKED! ‘Tis the season!

But, I specifically scheduled a yoga class for myself every night this week because this is the time of year when I’m likely to need it the most. Yoga, reading, and warm baths.

So, let’s get into the latest read from Blanche’s Book Club! It’s “Crazy Rich Asians” by Kevin Kwan! I was really excited to read this one, but first, here’s the description from Amazon:

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

I really enjoyed this book! It was an escape that I didn’t expect, and I really loved how opulent all of the descriptions were. At times, it was even funny, which I also didn’t expect.

I haven’t seen the movie – I didn’t want to see it until I read the book, so now I really want to see it!

Does anyone here watch “Rich Kids of Beverly Hills”? While reading this book, I just kept thinking about Dorothy, and how her parents own an entire MALL overseas, and one night, she was staying in the hotel and needed night cream, so her and her friend when into the department store and just got what she needed.

The characters in this book really are on an entirely new level, financially. It also reminded me of “Rich Girls” (major throwback). I’m putting a clip from one of the very first episodes where they are shopping for prom…

Anyway, so yes, a great read! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who needs a fun, unexpected, RICH escape!

When I returned the book to the library, I was about to put the second book in the series, “China Rich Girlfriend” on my reserve list, but miraculously, it was on the shelf! So, I’ll be reading that soon.

The next book Blanche’s Book Club is reading is “Winter Street” by Elin Hilderbrand.

You’ve almost made it to Friday – I hope you all have a great day!

We rented the movie by chance last weekend–it was listed as a comedy, but it really wasn’t (as you know). The movie is a bit hard to follow–lots going on. It takes the entire film to realize what’s going on without having read the book.
