I swear I’m not drinking pumpkin spice lattes yet, and I’m not trying to race through the end of summer… TRUST ME on this one!
The truth is, when I learned I’d be attending the movie premiere for The 48 Hour Film Project, I realized I have exactly zero pairs of high heels.
I’m not saying flats can’t look great, but if I could find a reasonable pair of heels that could work for many occasions, it was time to buy some.
Naturally, while I was on the ThredUp site looking for heels, they were having a big sale, and there were a few items for the upcoming season that I just couldn’t pass up.
Here’s what I found:
A cozy waffle-knit cardigan
I am a sucker for a cardigan. This one was in my personalized shopping recs, and they got it right. I love wearing red for fall and the holidays, and although this is a button-up, I can wear it buttoned or completely open. I like the versatility of wearing it either way, especially super casual with a graphic tee underneath!
Tommy Hilfiger Cable-knit cardigan
If it looks like something students at a boarding school would wear, then I want it. I always look for Tommy Hilfiger pieces because they have the preppy look, and I’m such a fan of Hilfiger as a person. I’m always excited to see what I could find. This cardigan has the classic cable-knit look, but with a modern twist in its cropped cut. This will look so cute with jeans and sneakers, or laced-up boots. I absolutely love the details, including the oversized buttons and the Hilfiger crest on the pocket.
Gap Dark Wash Denim
The last pair of jeans I ordered from ThredUp are from Gap, and I absolutely love the way they fit! As a result, I started keeping an eye out for more Gap denim, and I especially wanted a dark wash that would be the right length for sneakers and my Dr. Martin boots. I’ve already worn these a few times, and wow, they are so flattering! The flare is perfect, and they somehow make my legs look long. I’m not gonna ask questions.
Casual Striped Top
I spend much more time outside of my apartment in Buffalo than I did living in Austin, and finding clothes that I feel comfortable in but also feel put together and age-appropriate is often a challenge. I assume it’s just what’s out there and who the fashion industry is targeting (hint: it’s not me!), so I researched brands that might work. Evereve came up, so I checked what they had on ThredUp and grabbed this open-knit striped top. I’ve already worn it, and I love it! I’ll keep an eye out for more pieces from them.
Strappy Heels
I didn’t forget what I came for! I bought two pairs of strappy heels that aren’t too high (you can filter your ThredUp searches by heel height) and will hopefully go with most things. One pair is metallic gold, and the other is velvet black. I can’t imagine I’ll wear these much in my daily life, but you never know when you’ll need a pair of heels. I wore the gold pair to the movie premiere, and they were great. Both pairs will look great with jeans, too, for a more casual affair.
I also bought two items I’m not sure I’ll keep: a pair of maroon jeans and a navy blazer. The jeans are cute, but different from what I expected, so I think I’ll have to wear them a few times before making any final decisions. The blazer looks great; I’m just not sold on the fit.
But that’s the beauty of shopping at ThredUp! I don’t feel bad about the money I spent (I think the blazer was $7), so I’ll give it a whirl before deciding whether to send it back in my next clean-out bag. No big deal!
Have you started shopping for the fall season yet? What kind of pieces are you looking for?
