If there’s one thing that feels especially right when the seasons start changing, it’s settling in with “Gilmore Girls.”
Coffee? Check. Cozy blanket? Check. Something playing in the background while you convince yourself you’re going to watch “just one episode”? Definitely check.
I recently came across a social media post explaining that you can watch “Gilmore Girls” by the seasons and holidays in the episodes.
In other words, instead of simply watching straight through from Season 1 to Season 7, you can follow a schedule that lines up the episodes with the time of year they’re set in.
And naturally, I decided I needed a printable checklist for it.
My Gilmore Girls Rewatch Attempt
Here’s my confession: I’ve actually tried to watch Gilmore Girls before.
A few years ago, I started the series and made it through the entire first season. I liked it! I understood why people loved Lorelai and Rory, I enjoyed the quirky little world of Stars Hollow, and I could definitely appreciate the fast-paced dialogue.
But there was one small problem: at the time, Gilmore Girls wasn’t on a streaming service that I had.
So instead of casually clicking “next episode,” I was checking DVDs out from the library.
And, well… that made a 153-episode television commitment feel considerably less convenient.
Now I’m ready to give it another try.
Why Is Everyone Still Obsessed With Gilmore Girls?
“Gilmore Girls” has stuck around long after its original run ended in 2007.
The series follows Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory as they navigate family, friendships, school, careers, relationships, and life in the fictional small town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. The original series ran for seven seasons and 153 episodes, followed by the 2016 Netflix revival “Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.”
But the show’s appeal goes beyond the basic premise.
It’s incredibly cozy.
Stars Hollow is practically a character itself. There’s the town square, Luke’s Diner, town meetings, festivals, snow, autumn leaves, Christmas decorations, and an endless parade of eccentric residents.
It’s the kind of fictional town that makes you want to grab a coffee and move there, even if you’d probably get tired of Taylor Doose pretty quickly.
The dialogue is fast, funny, and full of references.
“Gilmore Girls” is known for its rapid-fire dialogue and constant stream of pop-culture, literary, musical, and historical references. You can rewatch an episode and still catch jokes or references you missed the first time around.
The mother-daughter relationship is at the center of everything.
Lorelai and Rory’s relationship is complicated, funny, affectionate, and occasionally frustrating. It’s not a perfect mother-daughter relationship, which is probably part of why it feels so relatable.
The show also explores the complicated relationship between Lorelai and her own parents, Emily and Richard, adding another generation to the story.
It’s the ultimate comfort rewatch.
There’s something about returning to a familiar fictional town and spending time with characters you already know. And Gilmore Girls has become particularly associated with fall and cozy-season viewing.
In fact, the show has developed a life far beyond its original television run. It became a streaming favorite after arriving on Netflix and has remained one of those shows people return to year after year. In 2023, Nielsen data ranked it among the most-watched acquired shows on a major streaming service.
And in 2025, the show’s 25th anniversary brought even more attention, including a reunion between Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel at the Emmy Awards.
So apparently I’m not the only one who thinks it might be time for another trip to Stars Hollow.
Watch Gilmore Girls With the Seasons
