Last night was the first real cold snap in Austin (complete with a freeze warning), but I’m already well-prepared for the winter months.
I live in a small apartment that’s at least 40 years old. I say that for context because, like most homes in the area, it was not built for cold climates.
Of course, it’s not cold in Austin for too long. So, short bouts of cold weather and a drafty apartment mean… I’ve never turned my heat on — not even during the freeze! I rely on sweatshirts, an electric blanket, and if it’s really chilly, a space heater (I promise, I’m very careful).
But, I noticed after last winter my electric blanket bit the dust. I’d had it for many years, so it ran its course. So, I went on the hunt for a new one.
After much research, I bought the Beautyrest Reversible Microlight to Sherpa Electric Blanket. I bought this in October and have used it multiple times — I even took it with me to Indiana last month!
There are several things that drew me to pick this electric throw blanket, including:
- It’s machine washable
- It has two different finishes (one on each side), including a sherpa side and a velvety microlight side — it looks so luxe!
- It comes in many different colors (I got the tan)
- It’s oversized, making it perfect for use on the couch or bed
- Has three heat levels, is evenly heated throughout, and has an automatic shut-off after two hours
Having had this for two months, I can say this is the softest blanket in my entire apartment! Even when it’s not turned on, I love cuddling up with it (and so does kitty Blanche).
I keep mine on my couch, but I spread it on my hotel bed when I took it to Indiana, which was a nice treat. And I washed it when I got home, which was easy, and everything came out fine.
So far, I’ve only had it on the low heat setting, and that’s been plenty toasty, but it’s nice knowing there are higher options when I need them.
Someone told me they never really considered buying an electric blanket and I was shocked. They’re affordable and such a quick way of staying warm! They are especially nice when you’re feeling under the weather.
I’m not big on making gift recommendations unless I really believe in it, and this one gets my approval. Maybe an electric throw blanket isn’t something people buy for themselves, but it would make a fabulous gift!
Do you use an electric blanket?
