It’s a Mondayyyyy again, but we are on the cusp of a holiday weekend!
I’m looking forward to 4th of July so much this year, because when I think back to last year’s July 4th… wow, that was depressing.
In year’s pre-COVID, I would go kayaking on the Colorado River and watch the fireworks downtown. Obviously that didn’t happen last year.
I think I did make veggie burgers or something, but I specifically remember sitting on my patio ALONE, lighting sparklers and then thinking, wait, what is the point of this?
But this year, the fireworks are back, and my best friend is coming to visit, and I even bought paper plates with American flags on them — hell yeah!
In the height of summer (and during a heat wave) I figured I’d share the sunscreens I’ve had in my bag so far this summer. Yes, 7… is that too many? I like to use them for different reasons 🙂
Supergoop Glow Stick | SPF 50
Okay, don’t judge me, but this year is my first time trying Supergoop! I did have a small sample of some face sunscreen in my Birchbox a few years ago, but it wasn’t memorable enough I suppose.
But, during their sale this year, I bought 4 items — this being one of them and I am already obsessed. It’s a totally clear dry oil stick and I packed it for the sailing day in San Francisco.
It was perfect to drop into my bag and apply throughout the day, without a mirror. I used it on my shoulders, face, even my lips. Love this product!
BeautyCounter Countersun Mineral Sunscreen | SPF 30
This is another Birchbox find. I got a sample of the lotion version (comes in a spray bottle, too, which I just ordered!) and used it during a trip to New York two summers ago and wow, I loved it. It’s totally clean and I loved how light it felt. I used it on my face, shoulders, and neck regularly as I was sightseeing.
Pacifica Sea & C Glow Bronzing Body Oil | SPF 20
I recently bought this because I thought it was an interesting product. If you’re not into oils, this won’t be for you. But, it’s a bronze-tinted oil that has a little bit of shimmer.
I have been using it on my legs every time I go to the pool! For an oil, it’s pretty light — but it will get on your clothes or towel, just a heads up.
I like that it’s tinted because my legs never get that tan. Plus, it’s still an SPF, so you can still look glowy and tan while still protecting your skin.
Australian Gold Botanical Mineral | SPF 30, SPF 50, SPF 70
I think Ulta had a sale or an extra points day on all Australian Gold products because I stocked up and bought a lotion in the 30 and 50, and a spray version in each, too! The lotion does take a bit of work to rub in, but I love that it’s not greasy and my skin feels protected for a long time, even when I’m sitting in my lounge chair sweating my butt off.
Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen Stick | SPF 50
I apparently love a sunscreen stick 🙂 I got the Golden Daze Shimmer Sunscreen Stick and I love using it on my chest. It’s sort of like makeup, but it protects my skin and is reef friendly.
It’s also water-resistant! The cool thing is, Bare Republic has loads of different colors in these sticks — bright purple, hot green, and neon pick… and of course, there’s a standard stick that’s got no color or shimmer. All of them are cruelty-free!
Supergoop Glowscreen | SPF 40
A makeup artist I follow on Instagram swears by this stuff, so I was influenced and bought some. It’s hydrating and has a nice glow that looks great under makeup for daily wear, or just by itself!
When I bought this, I noticed Supergoop recently launched a version for the entire body — this is just for face — and I am 100% sure I’ll be buying that in the near-future. Did you know you could buy sunscreen with your FSA? Yes. *Add to cart*
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion | SPF 50
I got a sample of this in my Birchbox and wow, this is luxury sunscreen if that’s a thing. This stuff almost feels like a regular face moisturizer… it just sinks right into the skin and my skin felt so hydrated when I used it.
It’s reef friendly, and it actually works better in the heat — perfect! It’s slightly pricier than other sunscreens on this list, but a little goes a long way. Plus, it feels so nice on the skin!
