Honestly, writing about glasses seems incredibly trivial this morning.
Admittedly, I haven’t been paying as much attention to the news since the insurrection for my own mental health reasons.
I do check in a few times every week, and when I checked yesterday before my evening walk, I saw the news about Daunte Wright.
Duante Wright is yet another innocent Black man killed at the hands of the police. And it happened in Minneapolis, just miles away from the trial regarding George Floyd.
As my Skimm newsletter said this morning, “About 14 miles away, Philando Castile was killed during a traffic stop in 2016. 10 miles away, George Floyd died in police custody in 2020. Now, Americans are yet again calling for justice in the police killing of a Black man.”
As I went on my walk, I had to fight back tears.
I feel sad and angry. I’m disappointed. Sometimes I feel hopeless. Sometimes I feel ashamed to be a white person.
Tired isn’t even the right word to describe how I feel, which makes me feel even worse for Black people who feel this on an entirely different level.
My tears, my empathy… it’s a drop in the bucket.
I feel like this is a constant routine. Black man gets pulled over for some bullshit reason, gets killed, his past is picked apart and judged by white people, and the cops come up with a bullshit reason for killing him.
Let me be clear: Not a single traffic violation warrants death.
Air fresheners, broken taillight, expired plates, it’s all a load of bullshit — and it’s obvious.
I will always be working to better understand the history of trauma and struggle that Black people in America have dealt with, and I continue to do the work to be the best ally I can be.
But I know it’s much bigger than me. Institutional racism and the systems that hold it in place won’t be dismantled by this blog or reading books from Black authors or even marching in the streets.
But I also know it starts somewhere, and this corner of the internet is a safe space for Black voices. I will continue to update my post on “How to Fight Racism” which is always a part of the main menu for easy access.
If there is a cause related to Duante Wright, his family, his community, or the fight for justice, please let me know and I’ll add it to the post.
May Duante Wright rest in peace, and may he get the justice he deserves. I’m sending love to his family, friends, and community.
Why I Shop At EYEBUYDIRECT
…Now, I suppose we can talk about glasses 🙂 I’m actually wearing mine right now!
I have been buying my glasses at EYEBUYDIRECT for 5 years. They were a client at an SEO agency I used to work at, and I was like… hmm… this seems like something.
Before, I’d always purchased glasses from the eye doctor and wow, that’ll crush your budget.
I have a really high prescription and for many years, I needed new glasses annually. I wear contacts during the day, but glasses before bed and paying for both is easily more than $1,000.
But not at EYEBUY!
I’ve gotten 3 pair of prescription glasses there and all of them were less than $150. The first 2 pair I got were standard frames and prescription lenses, and the third pair I got had prescription + blue light lenses.
I’ve also purchased sunglasses from EYEBUY!
And finally, my favorite part about this company — aside from the affordable prices — is that they donate a pair of glasses to someone in need for you at no additional charge.

Choosing Blue Light Blocking Lenses
Well, when I went to my eye doctor this year, my prescription didn’t change that much, so I decided I’d keep my glasses for another year.
But, I wanted the blue light protection for my eyes. Research shows that the light from tech devices can cause headaches and migraines, reduce clarity, and increase eye strain. It also confuses our brains in terms of daylight. It’s all sorts of bad.
So, I bought a pair of frames with non-prescription blue light lenses.
With EYEBUYDIRECT, you choose the frames you want (some are as low as $9) and then move on to pick the lenses and any extra coating or finish you want.
For my most recent purchase, I used the “try on” feature on the EBD website that uses your camera to put an image of the glasses on your face.
I’ve had my glasses now for a few weeks and I wear them when I’m on my laptop, using my phone, and when I’m using my iPad (mostly to read).
I purposefully got wireframes (I got the style “Perry”) so they would be lightweight — the heavier plastic frames slide down my nose — and I love how they feel and fit.
If you’re interested, you can get $10 off your next EYEBUYDIRECT order using my link.
Do you use blue light glasses?
