Blanche’s Book Club: ‘What Happens in Paradise.’

Happy Christmas week! I know that’s not an actual thing, but I think it’s so convenient that Christmas falls on a Friday. It gives me a few days to finish up on deadlines and blog posts, and I’m planning on completely vegging on Christmas Eve so I can watch ALL the Christmas movies and order a pizza. It’s the little things.

Anyway, I am still over here working on my 2020 reads and I’m trying to keep it festive. The latest read from Blanche’s Book Club is “What Happens in Paradise” — which is the second book in the “Paradise” series from Elin Hilderbrand. Here’s the scoop:

A year ago, Irene Steele had the shock of her life: her loving husband, father to their grown sons and successful businessman, was killed in a helicopter crash. But that wasn’t Irene’s only shattering news: he’d also been leading a double life on the island of St. John, where another woman loved him, too.

Now Irene and her sons are back on St. John, determined to learn the truth about the mysterious life — and death — of a man they thought they knew. Along the way, they’re about to learn some surprising truths about their own lives, and their futures.

I read book 1 a few weeks ago, and I didn’t love it. There was so much to keep track of, and I struggled with that, but the plot was interesting and I definitely wanted to know what would happen.

Book 2 was much more enjoyable. I feel like it gets more into the meat of the plot and we’re starting to get pieces to actually solve the mystery.

At the end of this book, there’s a huge cliffhanger, so I’m ready for the next book. Book 3 definitely has its work cut out for it, but I’m excited to see what happens!

After reading this book, I also read “Leave the World Behind” by Rumaan Alam… but I didn’t like it, so I don’t plan on writing a post about it. I assume no one wants to read much about a book they shouldn’t read. But, it got so many accolades this year, I really wanted to like it. It just wasn’t for me.

I’m sticking with Elin Hilderbrand and am currently reading the final book in the “Winter Street” series, “Winter Solstice.”

I hope you all have a great Monday!
