My Tried and True Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara Dupe!

I’ve mentioned before that, one of the perks of working at Ulta, is that you get a good amount of free beauty goodies. I worked there during two holiday seasons and for the first half of 2025 to save for my cross-country move.

Getting the free goods allowed me to try things I may not have otherwise. One of the items I received but only recently opened and used is the Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara.

This mascara is GOOD.

Quick review: Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara

Ilia has made a name for itself as the go-to option for a clean girl makeup look. Not only are its products free of toxins, but they’re also good for your skin (the skin tint is so good).

They have two different mascaras: the Limitless Lash and the Fullest Volumizing Mascara.

If I was new to both of them and could choose one, I’d go for the volumizing one because I’ve historically loved a thicker, bolder lash.

So, imagine my shock when I used the Limitless Lash (known more for its ability to separate each lash) and was amazed at how my lashes looked natural, but BETTER.

I wore this mascara for weeks before I started wondering if there was a less expensive version out there…I just can’t justify paying $29 for a mascara.

And before I get into it, I’ll say that finding “dupes” is not something I used to do. I was of the mindset that if I liked it and felt it was worth it (and I could afford it), buy it!

But in the last few years, I’ve tightened up my budget and have tried to cut corners in ways that make sense for me. If there’s a less-expensive version that I like just as much, I’m gonna get that, within reason (I still try to find ethical, quality products).

So, let’s dive in!

Ilia Limitless Mascara Drugstore Dupes

When I started my search, I was actually surprised by how many options I found, including:

L’Oreal Telescopic Lift Mascara [$13] – this was the most popular option I found, and I appreciate that there’s a waterproof option (Ilia doesn’t have one).

e.l.f. Lash n’ Roll Mascara [$7] – I was surprised to see this one, as it’s clearly a Benefit dupe, but its ability to lift the lashes back is the similarity here.

Wet n’ Wild Mega Length Mascara [$4] – This one has a similar dual-sided brush to Ilia’s, and it has the same features to lift, separate, and define the lashes.

Essence Lash Princess False Lash Mascara [$5] – I actually bought this one in brown to try that trend, too, but admittedly haven’t tried it yet. However, this is one of the most popular mascaras on the market, and it has a waterproof option.

Neutrogena Healthy Definition Mascara [$10] – This one intrigued me the most, as it was mid-range in price (still well-below Ilia’s $29), had a dual-sided brush, and had decent ingredients.

Quick Review: Neutrogena Healthy Definition Mascara

I may or may not end up trying ALL of these dupes at some point (why not?), but the Neutrogena was first on my list, and I was stoked the Walgreens I go to regularly had it (Ulta doesn’t sell Neutrogena makeup).

This multitasking mascara lengthens, separates, volumizes, and lifts lashes without smudging or flaking. Infused with panthenol and biotin, its unique formula leaves lashes looking healthy.

It’s known for its capability to:

  • – Lengthen & volumize for fuller lashes
  • – Gently lift & separate eyelashes
  • – Resist smudges, clumps, or flaking

I think the KEY to this dupe is the dual-sided brush, which helps separate and define the lashes. When I tried it for the first time, I posted a video on social media using the Ilia on one eye and the Neutrogena on the other, and they honestly looked identical.

In fact, some of my followers said they liked the Neutrogena better!

I’m curious whether you’ve tried any of these mascaras and which one you like or want to try!
