Swatches: Shade + Light Contour Palette.

I have wanted this palette for SO long! Makeup artists swear by it… and well, I had to have it.

Now, a total note here, but I have the Kat Von D branded Shade + Light Contour Palette. The brand is now called KVD Vegan Beauty, but they have many of the same products, including this iconic palette.

From the looks of it, the colors are the same, but I just wanted to put that out there. I actually got this palette just a few months before the brand made the switch.

Upon first look, I gotta say… the packaging is amazing. It’s such a bold palette with heavily embossed branding. I love it!

Inside, there’s six pans with the lighter shades on the top and the darker shades along the bottom. The pans for the darker shades are about twice the size of the lighter shades.

All of the shades are a matte finish, and now that I’ve used them, I can say you get a lot of pigment with each one. They blend easily — almost like a cream — and are beautiful on the skin!

When I swatched them on my arm, I did use a primer, and they are swatched from lightest to darkest, starting at the bottom and going up.

Here are the shades, from lightest to darkest, left to right:

Lucid: This is a very soft, light pink shade and I used it for setting the area under my eyes (on top of concealer). I love this look!

Lyric: This is closer to a banana powder since it has yellow undertones.

Levitation: This is a warmer, peach shade.

Sombre: A true taupe, this is a powder with cool undertones.

Shadowplay: A soft brown, this is the closest shade to a classic bronzer that has warmer undertones. This is the shade I used to contour.

Subconscious: A deep brown with cool undertones.

I think the colors I’ll use the most will be Lucid, Levitation, Sombre and Shadowplay. But you never know — maybe the more I use it, the more experimental I’ll get.

The other cool part about this palette is that it’s refillable. The pans are magnetic, so when you run out of a shade or two, you can pop them out and just purchase those shades!

Have you used this palette? What contour palettes have you tried?
