Last year, I was gifted a credit at The RealReal and was able to purchase a Louis Vuitton wallet (my thoughts on it here) and a pair of Fendi gloves for myself. Both are items I love and use all the time!
If you’re not familiar, The Real Real is the world’s largest and most trusted resource for authenticated luxury resale, making it easier for people to enjoy luxury in their own way while promoting sustainability in fashion.
Their mission to extend the life cycle of luxury items aligns with their understanding that the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters. This blend of appreciation for craftsmanship and commitment to sustainability immediately stood out to me. I love saving money and feeling good about how I spend my money!
I have been searching for the PERFECT denim jacket for months, and every time I visit a local thrift store, I can’t seem to find exactly what I had in mind. I wanted something oversized (I need to be able to wear sweaters underneath it), sturdy yet soft, and in decent condition so I can wear it for years.
I find that when you’ve got something specific in mind, going online often works out better than hoping you’ll stumble across it in person (although there are times I’ve been very lucky).
So, when I had another credit at The Real Real, I did a deep dive into their denim jackets… and they have so many cute ones!
To narrow my search, I used several of the same methods I use when purchasing thrifted denim [pants] (I wrote an entire blog post on it here) to ensure proper fit.
I used a jacket in my closet to compare measurements on my body vs. the pieces I saw on the website, and made my final selection.
I ended up purchasing an AGOLDE denim jacket in “Excellent” condition!
The Real Real has a condition scale for each item, ranging from “As is” to “Pristine.” The price of the item depends on its condition. “Excellent” condition means there are no visible signs of wear.
There are typically specific measurements for the item, and any additional notes that will aid in decision-making. For this item, it said AGOLDE jackets usually fit true to size.
Before finalizing my purchase, I did some research on AGOLDE denim. I’ve heard good things about the brand, but wanted to be sure. The brand is known for its vintage, 90’s-style denim.
The brand also heavily invests in eco-friendly practices. This includes using regenerative cotton, incorporating bio-derived stretch fibers, and utilizing advanced laser and ozone-wash machines to significantly reduce water use. Wow!
The jacket has more of a bomber-jacket shape, so it gives an oversized feel in the shoulders but still cuts right above the waist, which is really flattering.
It retails for approximately $480. The Real Real was selling it for $210, and it was on sale for $168! I mean….
Now that I have the jacket at home, I can confirm it feels soft and worn, but is in great condition (it looks new)!
I continue to be so impressed with The Real Real as a company and highly recommend them if you’re looking to expand your designer collection, love thrifting, or have items to sell.
If you’re interested in consigning with The Real Real, first-time consignors can use my code to get an additional $200 on your item (offer is valid in July, but typically works for an additional $100)!
