Over the last few years, I’ve gotten so much better about using SPF every day, even if I don’t leave my apartment.
As a result, I’ve tried so many sunscreens, and Sun Bum is a brand I turn to frequently for different reasons.
Recently, when I opened my bathroom cabinet and saw an entire shelf of Sun Bum products, I knew it was time to share my favorites with you.
Here we go:
Mineral SPF 30 Tinted Sunscreen Face Lotion
If you’re looking for an affordable tinted sunscreen, THIS is the one! The tint offers sheer coverage, which I like on days when I’m not wearing makeup. If I want to go a little heavier, I’ll add concealer and blush on top.
My favorite part about this is the texture; it’s almost whipped! It feels soft on the skin and has a semi-matte finish. It protects your skin from UVA/UVB rays, and is made without Oxybenzone & Octinoxate.
Original SPF 45 Sunscreen Face Mist
This might be a hot take, but I use the Face Mist as a final step in my makeup routine. I start with my base layer of SPF (usually the Tinted Face Lotion or the Daily Glow), add any blush, bronzer, etc., and then spray it on top to hopefully catch any spots I missed.
According to the Sun Bum website, the correct way to apply it is to spray it in your hands and then apply it to the face. Ehh? I love the fine mist, the scent (coconut + banana), and the witch hazel to calm irritated skin. This is a great addition to any beach bag for all-day SPF touchups.
Original SPF 50 Sunscreen Spray
No SPF collection is complete without a solid waterproof sunscreen spray!
With this lightweight formula, you can choose your strength (15-70) and know you’ll be protected.
I love tossing a mini bottle in my purse because it sprays on completely clear and I can apply it myself without a mirror.
The cap also has a lock, so no need to worry about anything spilling.
SPF 15 Sunscreen Browning Lotion
I admittedly used to spend a lot of time lying in the sun (don’t come for me), so I’ve tried my fair share of browning products. Not all of them have SPF, which is one reason I like Sun Bum’s. It also has coffee extract so you get an instant bronze look while building a glow. Since this has a low SPF, I like to use the Spray on top, or reapply often to avoid getting burned.
Daily 30 Glow
This is the product I’ve been reaching for nearly EVERY day! I love wearing this instead of foundation, as it provides an insane glow; I always get compliments on my skin when I wear it!
If I want to tone done the glow (which is rare), I mix in a drop of my foundation. I primarily wear this on my face but I also put it on my chest, shoulders, and the back of my hands; it’s just beautiful!
Not only does this provide a great glow, it has ingredients that are good for your skin, including: Kakadu Plum (a super fruit containing high levels of Vitamin C, helps combat free radicals and boosts skin’s luminosity),Vitamin E (an antioxidant that helps to neutralize free radicals, which are the main cause of premature skin aging), and Antioxidants (helps to inhibit oxidation against pollution, UV exposure, and other environmental stressors).
After Sun Cool Down Lotion
This was the first Sun Bum product I ever tried, and it got me hooked! I may or may not have four bottles of it in my cabinet right now 🙂 I do a pretty good job of preventing burns, but when they do happen, this lotion turns things around pretty quickly. This lotion has Vitamin E, Aloe, and Cocoa Butter, all which rehydrate the skin after spending time in the sun, burn or not. I love using it after a day in the sun; it smells delish (coconut + banana). Sunny day, followed by a warm shower, and then slather on some Cool Down? YES!!
Original SPF 30 Sunscreen Lip Balms
A sun care routine isn’t complete without an SPF for your lips! I love these original balms, as they are hydrating and come in so many good beachy flavors such as banana, coconut, pineapple, and watermelon (among others). Keep one in your purse all year, especially if you live somewhere that gets harsh winters.
Revitalizing Hair Mask
This smells deliciously like bananas, protects hair from the sun and feels so nourishing, especially after a beach day. I admittedly like to buy the packets and just slather the entire thing in my hair whenever I need to. The banana peel and pulp, along with the sunflower seed oil and coconut oil really gives hair the moisture it needs.
3 n 1 Leave In
This is another product I reach for daily, not only because it has Sun Bum’s signature scent, but it has several different uses.
It detangles wet hair, conditions, and protects from UV rays! I don’t currently color my hair, but when I did, I was always looking for products that would prevent my color from fading (there really aren’t many!), and that’s how I found this.
I use it a few times a week after washing my hair, but I’ll use it whenever the ends of my hair feel dry or after a day in the sun. It’s a fantastic, all-in-one product.
Sun Bum Products I’d Like to Try
Daily 50 Body Lotion – Last year, a very dear friend of mine was diagnosed with skin cancer. Thankfully, she caught it early, but we both talk alot about our skincare routines and SPFs we’ve tried. We realized that, although everyone should wear SPF every day, there’s no affordable body lotion with an SPF… and then Sun Bum came out with this! It looks like the perfect way to add sunscreen into your daily routine and I’m excited to try it!
Blond Lighten & Tone Kit – I admittedly used A LOT of Sun In in high school and the photo evidence is frightening! This looks easy and convenient like Sun In, but better and provides a more natural look. During my Sun-In days, I didn’t know anything about toner, so having that as part of the kit seems like it would prevent the brassy look.
Moisturizing Lip Balm – Sun Bum used to sell tinted lip balms, which I loved, but these look like a glossier, upgraded version! I love that there are so many lip options to protect your lips. The Heat Wave (a cherry red) color would be my pick!
…And those are my Sun Bum favorites!
For context, these are mostly products I’d wear on a regular basis living in a city without much access to water (although I have worn some of these products on the beach or by the pool).
If you’re planning to swim in the ocean or around coral reefs, it’s worth looking into sunscreens specifically formulated and marketed for use in those environments.
I’d love to know what some of your favorite sun care products are!
