Blanche’s Book Club: ‘So Old, So Young.’

I’ve read so much non-fiction this year, I’m trying to find novels that hold my attention. So, when I saw “So Old, So Young” by Grant Ginder, I hoped it was a book I’d enjoy!

This book follows six college friends over the course of two decades, but only through the lens of five parties, where they spend time together.

The friends are Marco, Mia, Sasha, Theo, Richie, and Adam, and over these two decades, they navigate their careers, relationships, childbearing, and other life challenges.

During the first party, where we meet the characters, I was questioning how invested I could get if I was only reading about their brief social interactions.

But Ginder does a great job of weaving in backstories that make the parties much more layered and intriguing. Once I got to the second party, I was hooked.

The more I read, the more I feel drawn to plot-driven stories, but the characters in this book felt very real and relatable. During the final chapters of the book, I felt sad for them and was sad to leave them when I finished the book!

I thought the premise was creative and indicative of real life, and the issues this group faces (especially as millennials) bring humor in with tragedy, which is often the case in daily life!

This is the first book I’ve read by Ginder, and I love it when an author you enjoy has a list of titles to explore! Other books by Ginder include “The People We Hate at the Wedding,” “This is How it Starts,” and “Honestly, We Meant Well.”

I’m looking forward to checking out some of his other books and continuing to look for fiction that holds my interest.
