In November, I shared some ideas for using a Snacklebox all year long. And I managed to inspire myself because I used the snacklebox to create an easy hot chocolate bar!
You can make a hot chocolate bar with or without a snacklebox, and I’ll share how I did it.
I started by making hot chocolate from scratch, using this recipe, which allows you to dump everything in a crock pot, set it and forget it!
I actually doubled the recipe because I was serving a group, and I used oat milk and coconut milk so it would be dairy-free… and, this was the most-delicious hot chocolate I’ve ever had! Seriously, it’s so good.
Aside from having yummy hot chocolate, I wanted the hot chocolate bar to have all the fixins for a delicious drink! Here’s what I added to my bar:
Mini marshmallows. I mean, this goes without saying, right?
Whipped topping. I like adding whipped topping AND marshmallows, but you do you.
Chocolate syrup. I thought people may like to add a drizzle for extra cocoa flavor.
Mini candy canes. It’s not for everyone, but they are cute and will add a peppermint twist.
Festive sprinkles. I had some green, gold, and red sprinkles for anyone that wanted some color!
Spice. I added a jar of cinnamon to the mix — for those with a sophisticated palette 🙂
…And I don’t want to forget to mention the cups I put on the bar, because it look me awhile to find some good ones!
I wanted cups specifically for hot beverages, and they had to have lids. At first I searched for holiday cups, but those were out of my budget. I eventually found the perfect pack (linked here) and am so happy with them!
I did have to put the sleeves together (and I taped them to ensure they stayed on the cup) but it was worth it to save some money.
I made a super simple sign to print for the bar (you can use the template here), which added some festive color to the setup.
To complete the bar, I grabbed a metallic gold tablecloth and some holiday paper napkins and I was good to go!
The hot chocolate was a hit (people kept asking me for the recipe) and everyone liked being able to customize and photograph their drink!
Of course, you can take this idea and make it your own. Change up the toppings (I think adding candy would be fun or, if it’s adults-only, pop a bottle of liqueur on the bar!) or swap the cocoa recipe — the options are endless!
Do you think you’ll make something like this?
