I don’t wear red lipstick much, simply because I prefer other colors on most days, but I do have a red lip combo that I pull out every holiday season.
When I wear it, people always ask what it is. Generally speaking, I think people are intimidated by bolder lip colors. While I understand that, I’m also a fan of going for it!
But let’s get into the products. Two of them are ones I’ve worn for several years and swear by them. And, I added a third product this year that I’ll share. Here we go:
The red lipliner you need
This might be a bit of a hot take, but my favorite red lip liner is by Kylie Cosmetics in “Mary Jo K.” Currently, it only comes in the lip kit with the liquid lip, so you could by the kit and be good to roll for your holiday red lip.
I know the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits are a bit controversial, but I’ve used several of them, and they STAY on your lips — eating, drinking, etc. — your lip will stay… which is why I love using the liner as a base for my holiday lip.
I line and fill with the liner, and then move on to the lipstick.
The perfect red lipstick for the holidays
The red lipstick I swear by is MAC’s Lustreglass Sheer-Shine Lipstick in the shade “Lady Bug.”
It provides a bit of a shine to the lips, which is hydrating and makes the lips appear fuller. Plus, putting it on top of the matte lip liner is a combination that will truly stay on the lips all day or night.
The color is a blue-based red that is flattering on many skin tones and won’t make your teeth look yellow — some reds can do that!
If you like the way the liner and the lipstick look, you can stop at this step and be on your way.
But, if you want to take it one step further… proceed!
Top it off with a glitter lip gloss
I saw a beautiful red, glittery lip look on Pinterest and wanted to recreate it this year.
So, when I saw the CoverGirl Clean Fresh Yummy Gloss Plumper in the shade “Merry Kissmas,” I knew this would give my lip combo some extra shine!
