It’s been a MINUTE since I had a book review on here, and well, that’s for two reasons: 1. I haven’t been reading quite as much as I used to (partly because of my current workload and partly because I am exhausted), and 2. When I do read a book, I don’t feel it’s good enough to share.
I really just haven’t had a book really suck me in lately!
But, a few weeks ago I listed to the audio version of “Do You Mind if I Cancel?” by Gary Janetti and it made me laugh so much that I thought it was worth a blog post 🙂
Gary Janetti is an acclaimed TV comedy writer and producer, but I know him as Brad Goreski’s husband. The two of them are quite the duo and make for some hilarious Instagram content — especially during quarantine!
I was so excited when I saw the library had Gary’s book in the audio version, because it’s read by him. I will warn you though, that he has an interesting cadence that could be annoying to some. He reads it like he talks, so I was already used to it, but just a head’s up.
The book is a series of short stories which is usually NOT my jam, but I only picked it up because I know how funny Gary is and the essays delivered on that — I was laughing at so many of them.
I listened to 80% of the book in one sitting if that tells you anything.
A majority of the stories are about growing up, his dreams of being on a soap opera, and stories from his work as a bellman in New York.
This would be a great option if you’re headed on a road trip… or cleaning your kitchen 🙂
Hopefully, I’ll have some more book reviews coming soon — I’m determined to find a goodie that will suck me right in.
