A Review: Uncommon James Candles.

Hey there! What are you guys up to this weekend?

I have some work to catch up on — this past week was weird. I had a few really productive days, and some days that felt incredibly lazy. You can’t win ’em all, right?

I am also hoping to get some reading time in. Whenever I feel busy, reading is the first thing that goes out the window, and I hate when that happens. So, I’m making it a requirement 🙂

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it here or not, but I’m a candle JUNKIE.

I burn candles all the time and, as a result, I buy candles all the time. I have to stop myself from buying them sometimes because I have such a large stash already… and I don’t care if this makes me seem basic!

Of course, I love finding candles that smell good, but I also think they set such a nice mood. I always light a candle in my kitchen when I’m cooking, or light one next to my tub when I’m taking a bath, and I usually have one lit on my desk when I’m writing.

Candles were actually my first purchase at Uncommon James… and I’ve been hooked ever since. Here are the ones I’ve tried so far:

Uncommon James Pumpkin Latte Candle

I bought this one at the end of September last year after seeing Kristin Cavallari (who owns Uncommon James) post about how fast it sold out. I think we can all agree that fall is the best season for candles — I mean who can turn down a good pumpkin or apple candle?

Obviously, I can’t because after she posted this, I purchased it when the restock was announced. I’ve quickly learned that UJ has several standard scents they sell all year, but they release one scent specific to each season. That scent is only sold in 4oz tins or 10z containers.

Note: the most recent seasonal scent had an 8oz option, too, but I say go for the 10!

The Pumpkin Latte was so yummy. It’s light and definitely not an overbearing pumpkin scent, more like a warm cozy smell. And, because the largest size is a 10oz, it’s really just something that I occasionally got a whiff of, which I really liked. I will be on the HUNT this September!

Uncommon James Cowboy Campfire Candle

The 26 oz Cowboy Campfire Candle

I bought the Cowboy Campfire Candle at the same time I bought the Pumpkin Latte Candle. For this one — since it’s not a seasonal scent — I went for the 26oz.

I like a big candle, and UJ puts it’s larger options in really cool ceramic or glass containers. I washed out the container for this and use it as a giant pen cup, but you could pot a plant in it.

I absolutely LOVED this scent. I am a real sucker for manly, smoky scents. If it says “whiskey” or “clove” or “tobacco,” I’m adding it to cart immediately.

Cowboy Campfire has teakwood, tobacco leaf, and saffron, with notes of smoke, amber, and patchouli… a touch of clove. SOLD.

Uncommon James Winter Fir Candle

This was my next purchase. Winter Fir is the seasonal scent for… winter 🙂 I bought this for myself in a 10oz and bought some of the 4oz tins for Christmas gifts (this size is perfect for a stocking stuffer or as an add-on to a gift card).

At the time, they didn’t have it as an option, but they currently sell candle flights, which is a pack of 6 tins — with six different scents — for a bundled price.

I love this idea, especially if you want to break it up for gifts or if you’re someone who packs a candle when you travel.

Winter Fir has that fresh fir scent, but it’s balanced with woody tones, musk, and spice. In other words, it’s pretty much perfect for my taste!

Uncommon James Tennessee Pine Candle

34 oz Tennessee Pine Candle

I bought this as a Christmas scent and wow did it deliver. I went for the 34oz, which comes in a beautiful white and gold pot that I put right on my coffee table and I love how the scent fills up my apartment.

According to Kristin Cavallari, this is UJ’s best-selling scent. It has eucalyptus, cedarwood, and patchouli essential oils, with bottom notes of vanilla. Like… this is a great candle. I love it for the holidays, but you could burn it whenever.

I should also note that all of the candles are made from soy wax and a nickel-free wick. I have not had any issues with tunneling or uneven burning… all of the candles have lasted a long time!

Note, I do use a wick trimmer religiously to improve burn time and decrease soot.

Uncommon James Broadway Nights Candle

5.5 oz Broadway Nights Candle

This is another scent that’s after my own heart. Broadway Nights is a blend of musky and slightly sweet fragrances, with black pepper and cedarwood essential oils, topped with teakwood and amber. I mean… yeah.

I will say that I bought two of these in the 5.5oz size because the container they come in is SO cute. After I burned the Broadway Nights down all the way, I still use the containers for tea lights. I should note that any of the year-round scents you can get in pretty much any size.

Next time, I’ll be getting a larger size though, because I felt like I didn’t get the full scent experience with the small ones.

Uncommon James Nashville Citrus Candle

This one — in the 34oz — is currently on my coffee table and it’s a great scent for spring and summer. It has top notes of mandarin oranges and mimosas, and is infused with orange, vetiver, and sandalwood essential oils, with notes of bergamot and cedar.

Uncommon James Lake Shore Breeze Candle

10 oz Lake Shore Breeze Candle

This was my most-recent purchase and it’s the seasonal scent for spring. This one has a clean scent that’s fresh and floral with a touch of berries and leaves, with a light woodsy note. It has a blend of Bulgarian rose and blackcurrant essential oils. Loved this one!

Recently, UJ announced a candle subscription service, which gives you 20% off the price in addition to sending you a monthly candle. It’s a pretty cool idea, especially if you’re like me and burning candles 24/7.

Believe it or not, there are still UJ scents I haven’t tried! I am looking forward to getting the Mediterranean Fig and the Country Sandalwood at some point 🙂

If you’re interested trying any of these candles from Uncommon James, I have a $10 off coupon for you! Or use it for jewelry, sunglasses, or home accessories.
