Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, and in the past, I kind of dreaded it. I feel like it’s one of those days that gets so hyped up, it can only lead to disappointment.
But, after college, my best friend and I came up with a plan to combat it — we’d do whatever we wanted on New Year’s Eve! Crazy idea, right?
Instead of going out, we’d stay in, order takeout, watch TV, and paint our nails, whatever. But the twist is, instead of giving each other Christmas gifts, we exchange a box of New Year’s Eve gifts. It’s little gifts that you can open all evening, leading up to midnight.
We have always put a time on each gift, along with a clue. So it says “Open at 7pm” and then has the clue. The gifts can be anything, but we usually ask each other if there’s anything specific the other person wants. Usually it’s things for the new year.
Last year, I knew I really wanted to be more eco-friendly in 2020, so my gifts included reusable paper towels, a coffee sock, and produce bags!
It’s honestly a tradition I have come to look forward to all year. It makes me feel empowered on New Year’s Eve instead of feeling like I’m without — without a partner, without a big party, without a midnight kiss, etc.
Tomorrow is actually a day off for me. I gave myself Christmas off, but have really had SO much work this last week and I am really looking forward to a day of rest before the New Year kicks off.
I don’t have much of a plan tomorrow, but I did sign up for a yoga class (hosted via Zoom) at lunch. I am planning to restart watching “Gossip Girl” from episode one, and I’m going to order some veggie “sushi” from a local spot down the road.
I also have a ticket to a virtual Justin Bieber concert. I had tickets to see him this summer (which was delayed a year), and well, if it has to be virtual, then I will take it.
Friday, I’ll be working on my 2021 vision board! I picked up my craft supplies today to create it, but I am still finalizing my 2021 goals.
I’ll be back tomorrow to do a final look back at my 2020 goals, but just in case, I hope you all have a fantastic New Year’s Eve!
