Thank you to everyone who visited the blog yesterday to check out the 2020 Presidential Debate BINGO… I was so looking forward to watching the debates and playing BINGO and it was really neat to think that so many people around the globe were playing along with me!
Of course, the debate itself was… a train wreck?? I don’t even know what to call it, honestly. I just know that it was loud and angry and intentional and when it was over, I had so much anxiety that my stomach hurt.
And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
I’m so excited about the latest read from Blanche’s Book Club: “How to Save a Life” by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke!
This book is a love story with a “Groundhog’s Day” twist. When Dom is randomly reunited with his former fiance after 10 years, he’s determined to win her over. But… she keeps dying on their dates. He tries coming up with all kinds of different plans to save her, but it’s not working out in his favor.
I know the plot sounds a bit weird… but honestly, I kept seeing such great reviews on it that I couldn’t resist reading it and I’m so glad I did.
I was a little worried about so much death — since my dad passed away I have a hard time reading books that talk about death or cancer or hospitals — but this was pretty tastefully done.
I have been following Liz & Lisa’s career for many, many years. This is their seventh novel, and it was their first time writing from a male’s perspective. I’m not a man, so I can’t say how accurate it was, but I thought they did a good job.
This is a step away from their normal genre, which is more in the thriller category, but I’m okay with it! I think it’s cool when authors share the stories they want to share, and this one was really unique to me.
The book had several memorable scenes, but I really loved the scene at the San Diego County Fair, which the cover is referencing. I am a sucker for the fair and everything that comes with it: ferris wheels, corndogs, stuffed animals… love it!
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes romcoms with a deeper message 🙂
The next book Blanche’s Book Club will be reading is “Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck & Fortune” by Roselle Lim.
