You might be surprised to see a review from Jaclyn Cosmetics here… Frankly, I’m a little shocked to be writing it!
If you’ve been around for awhile, you might know that Jaclyn Hill was my entry into the Beauty YouTuber community. I’ve always loved makeup, but watching her videos made me even more excited about videos and she’s influenced me to try so many different cosmetics and skincare goodies.
So last summer, when she announced the launch of her very own company Jaclyn Cosmetics, I was SO pumped. She was starting with a line of nude lipsticks — and if you’re at all into makeup — you know what happened.
It flopped. Big time.
I was waiting at my computer to order a trio of lipsticks as soon as they dropped and I shelled out the $50 for them. When they arrived, they were beautifully packaged and the lipsticks went on like butter.
But many didn’t have that same experience.
Horrible, embarrassing reviews started coming in and Jaclyn resorted to comments and even videos that were full of dishonest excuses for a failed launch.
I wrote extensively about it (read it here) — it was really hard to watch and I stopped watching her videos and I was skeptical when she launched the line of highlighters for the holiday season.
But slowly, the Jaclyn we all know and love has been reappearing, and it’s really great to see.
Generally speaking, I think a lot of her fans want her to succeed. I know some would love to see her relaunch the lipstick line!
So, I bought the Mood Light Luminous Glow Powder during a sale and I got a free Jaclyn Cosmetics brush to use with it.
Here’s the scoop on the powder:
Bring out that inner glow with this magically luminous powder. Infused with diamond and rose quartz powders, this multi-purpose formula blurs imperfections, enhances your complexion, and delivers a radiant finish. Use it as a finishing powder all over the face to get that lit-from-within look or apply it to targeted areas for a soft highlight.
It’s available in five shades for different skin tones. I got the second to lightest option: Brighten Up, which is a peachy tone.
It’s $32 for a jar, and it’s pretty substantial. You don’t need much product and the packaging is really nice.
I don’t know if I would use this for an all-over setting powder, because it does have an obvious glow to it, but I’ve enjoyed using it in two different ways: 1. I use it to set the under eye after concealer and it brightens up that area, and 2. I use it instead of a highlighter.
It’s not a blinding highlight; it’s a glow. Great if you’re looking for a natural makeup look and I think it looks great with full glam or even just a tinted moisturizer.
I got the Mood Light Powder Brush (it came free as a promotion) and honestly, this is nothing to be impressed by. I find myself using my regular Morphe brushes instead of this one, so if you’re on the fence about the brushes, I say skip.
But the powder is good! It’s also a unique product. I know there are a few glow powders on the market, but not many.
In general, I’m glad we are getting back to seeing the Jaclyn we all loved before. She has said there are more items from her line coming soon, so I’ll be curious to see what they are.
But I am still going to WAIT for the reviews!
