What is a blog?

When I created my course, Blogging for Beginners, it was with the idea that anyone could take it, even if they didn’t know what a blog was.
It might be difficult to believe, but when I started teaching the class in 2010, there were many students that weren’t sure what a blog was.
Over the years, my students have become much more tech savvy, but still, I never want to assume that anyone knows what the heck a blog is. Plus, it’s always good to start on an even playing field.
So, in this audio post on The Bitter Lemon’s Patreon I’m discussing a few different definitions of a blog, plus some frequently asked questions re: beginning blogging, such as…
  • Why is a blog important?
  • What should I blog about?
  • How often should I update my blog?
  • How long should a blog post be?
  • How do I get traffic to my blog?
  • What should my first blog post be?
Of course, all of these questions have answers that warrant their own post (trust me, we’ll get there), but I’ll give you the short and sweet answers for now.
If there’s other questions you have about blogging or digital media, feel free to leave a comment and let me know — I am always open to more post ideas!
