Watching: ‘Dumplin’.

Aaahhhh-chhoooo! The cedar in Austin is having its moment and it is ROUGH over here. I felt like I’d tackled my allergies with my fancy dust-mite-proof bedding, air purifier, and cleansing contact solution… but nothing beats CEDAR.

On the flip side, I watched “Dumplin'” on Netflix! I’d sort of been counting down the days until its release since I loved the book so much (you can read my book review here). Here’s the description of the movie from Netflix:

To prove a point about measuring up and fitting in, Texas teen Willowdean Dickson enters a local pageant run by her ex-beauty queen mom.

Danielle MacDonald plays Dumplin’, and I immediately recognized her from “Patti Cakes”, which also had a similar theme of not fitting in, but rising above the circumstances (I don’t even know if that’s a good way to describe it).

Jennifer Anniston plays Dumplin’s mom/the pageant host and coach; it’s a different type of role than we’ve seen from her before, but naturally, she does a great job.

I think it did a good job of fitting the book, and now I’m wondering if the book’s companion, “Puddin'” will get a Netflix movie, too!

The topper on this movie was all of the Dolly Parton music – I kept seeing posts of Dolly with the book’s author and the stars from the movie (I believe she wrote an original song for the film).

Another great movie from a book – is it just me or are they getting better at these??

My mom and I are continuing on with the Christmas Staycation – we tackled the San Marcos outlets yesterday and saw “Mary Poppins Returns” last night – I’ll offer up my full review on that next week.

I hope you all have a great weekend planned – the calm before the storm, perhaps?! Let me know what you guys are up to! Cheers!
