Remember when my laptop had “an incident with gravity” more than a week ago, and it had to go for a stay at the Apple Genius Bar? Well it’s back, better than ever, and I’m so glad to have it.
When I dropped it off at Apple two Sundays ago, I was certain they were going to tell me I should toss it and just buy a new one. Luckily, they said they could fix it, but it wasn’t going to be cheap—$500.
Somehow, I survived the 8 days without my laptop {the only computer I have besides the one at work} and was happy to get the call yesterday that it was ready to be picked up. I was barely ready for fork over the hefty sum of cash, though.
However, I arrived at Apple, gave them my job ticket, and they handed me my precious laptop. It was shiny, nearly new with a new screen, new casing, new keyboard, and a new mouse and touch pad. Sweet!
Then, something magical happened. I filled out a piece of paper, and the man said, “Okay, we’re all set here. You don’t owe us anything.”
I questioned nothing, said thanks, and got the hell out of dodge before they realized my mistake—$500 in my pocket! There really is a God!
As a treat for myself, and for dear old laptop, I bought a new sleeve for it: a navy Lacoste zip-up, with bright green trim and the signature alligator embroidered on the front.
Here’s to a few more years of writing with my trusty laptop!
