We’ve made it to yet another Monday… I’m trying so hard to soak up every bit of summer in Buffalo. Don’t get me wrong, fall has its perks, but I don’t want winter to arrive and for me to regret not spending more time outside when it was warmer!
One of the ways I’m savoring summer is by sticking to my summer reading stack. Admittedly, I got a bit of a late start on it, but there’s still plenty of time left to read more!
My latest read is “Mystic Summer” by Hannah McKinnon.
This one has been on my TBR list for years; I have no idea why it took me so long!
“Mystic Summer” follows Maggie, an elementary school teacher who seems to have everything going for her. This book gave me early-2000’s vibes, where the characters have an impossibly perfect life… until they don’t.
Maggie loves her job, lives in a great apartment in Boston, has a sweet boyfriend, and is prepping for her best friend’s wedding…
Until she finds out her school is facing budget cuts (that could affect her job), her boyfriend’s schedule means barely time to meet up, but he wants her to move in, and the venue for that wedding has canceled.
To focus and help her friend, they decide to go back to their roots and spend the summer in Mystic, Connecticut.
Once Maggie steps foot in Mystic, she runs into her college boyfriend… and that is all you need to know! 🙂
I am a sucker for a summer book that takes place in a cozy beach town, and this one delivers. I looked forward to reading it whenever I had a chance.
The other fun part about reading Hannah McKinnon is that she has other books, so now I’m excited to read those!
With titles like “Sailing Lessons,” “The Summer Club,” and “The Summer House” (among others), it seems like she’s nailed the breezy summer reads, and I’m here for it!
I’ll definitely be reading more from her (maybe not this summer since I’ve committed to my stack, but next spring and summer, for sure)!
