As someone who strives to make environmentally conscious choices, discovering Pela was a breath of fresh air.

Their commitment to creating a waste-free future resonated deeply with me, and I was eager to try their products firsthand.

My Pela Purchases

I recently bought a new (or at least, new to me; it’s refurbished) iPhone and knew I’d need a new phone case before I could use it.

So, I took advantage of Pela’s buy-one-get-one-free offer and purchased two of their phone cases. Not only are they stylish and durable, but they also provide the peace of mind that comes with knowing they’re made from sustainable materials.

Pela has so many cases to choose from, which I love. I narrowed down my search using the filter by my phone type, and went from there.

I ended up buying one clear case (to show off my phone’s color and possibly display fun stickers) and one case with mushrooms all over it!

Additionally, I tried their liquid screen protector, “Canopy.” Admittedly, I was a little nervous about this, but reading the reviews gave me confidence.

Applying traditional screen protectors has always been a hassle for me, but this liquid version was a game-changer. It was easy to apply, and my screen remains crystal clear.

Thoughtful Packaging

What truly impressed me was the packaging. It was entirely recyclable, and Pela included a prepaid envelope for me to send back my old phone case for proper recycling.

As it says on the Pela website, “We take responsibility for other companies’ plastic waste, in addition to our own products, through our Pela 360 program.

Taking responsibility for our products through their entire life cycle is one of the most sustainable things we can do as a company to shift away from a linear economy, toward a low-carbon emitting, sustainable, regenerative, circular responsible economy.”

This level of thoughtfulness and commitment to sustainability is rare and commendable.

Pela’s Mission and Impact

Pela’s mission is to create everyday products without everyday waste. They utilize a material called Flaxstic®, a blend of plant-based biopolymers and flax shive, resulting in a compostable phone case that breaks down in a compost environment within 3-6 months .

Their manufacturing process is designed to minimize environmental impact, producing 30% fewer carbon emissions, using 34% less water, and generating 80% less waste compared to traditional plastic phone cases .

Pela is also a certified B Corporation and a member of 1% for the Planet, demonstrating their commitment to ethical practices and environmental responsibility .

Final Thoughts

Switching to Pela has been a rewarding experience. Not only do I have high-quality products that protect my phone, but I also have the satisfaction of supporting a company that aligns with my values.

I have a feeling I’ll be purchasing additional Pela cases (one for every occassion) and possibly a phone grip in the near future.

If you’re looking to make more sustainable choices in your daily life, I highly recommend giving Pela a try.
