Months ago, I was digging online for a skincare product I love but was running low on. Turns out, the product was discontinued… because, of course!
I panicked because this product has SAVED my skin.
But it didn’t take long before I thought, wait, what if I could make something similar? I probably wouldn’t have thought that a year ago, but I’m now the person who’s pickling carrots and making my own nut milk. Why not make skincare?
There are two ingredients that have really done wonders for my acne-prone skin: arnica and calamine.
The mask I’m talking about today includes calamine.
During the pandemic lockdown, my skin was in awful shape and I used the time indoors to explore all sorts of solutions. I noticed that a specific soap (Fresh Farmacy from LUSH) and a calamine mask from First Aid Beauty (item now discontinued) not only cleared up acne, but soothed my skin to reduce redness.
So, I searched for recipes for calamine face masks and stumbled upon a blog post from Hello Fresh. There, I found the recipe for a Healing Blue berry Mask.
All you need is 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries, 1 tablespoon of calamine powder, and 1 tablespoon of sweet almond oil.
Mix all of the ingredients together (I used a muddler to help smash the berries) until they are mostly smooth.
And ta-da, you’ve made your own face mask!
Apply the mask to a clean face, and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Follow up with a moisturizer.
I had a good bit of extra, so I put it in a jar and keep it in my fridge.
I’ve never used sweet almond oil before, but it has several benefits for the skin, as it moisturizes, is anti-inflammatory, treats acne, and heals sun damage. It makes the perfect addition to this mask!
I’m excited to add this into my regular skincare routine and just might try one of the other skincare recipes!
