I’ve sworn by Tree Hut’s Shave Oil for the last few years.
Prior to using that, I really struggled with getting a nice shave on my legs… and I’m in my late 30s!
I spent my teen years and all of my twenties either getting razor burn every time I shaved or assuming something was wrong with me and I’d never be able to have silky smooth legs. It sounds crazy thinking back on it, but it’s so true.
Sometimes I even felt self-conscious about it. What if someone could SEE my razor burn, or feel it?
Then, I started using the shave oil, and couldn’t believe it. I’ve used it ever since… and then I saw a product from Kitsch I had to try: the Solid Shave Butter.
I swear I’m not a traitor! But, as a skincare and beauty junkie, I’m not willing to settle for what I’ve got. I’m always going to try something new if I think it’ll be worth it. And if it’s not, well I’ll turn back, of course.
As a brand, Kitsch has been on my radar for years because it’s a female-created and owned brand, and they try to make every product as sustainable as possible.
The first Kitsch product I purchased was in 2020, and it was a set of reusable cotton rounds (which I still use). Since then, I’ve purchased a few of Kitsch’s hair products, but have put several other items on my wish list.
Kitsch released its line of plastic-free packaged bars when I was working at Ulta and I knew I had to try some!
The Solid Shave Butter was first on my list once I ran out of shave oil. And here we are!
My Review of the Kitsch Solid Shave Butter Bar
The Solid Shave Butter comes in thin cardboard packaging (no plastic!) and the bar is $9.
The shave oil I was using was $10-$13/bottle, and according to the Kitsch website, one Shave Butter Bar replaces two bottles of shaving cream — BAM, saved money right off the bat!
The Shave Butter Bar is made from all natural, clean, vegan ingredients (love this) and it has shea butter and vitamin e to support moisturized, healthy skin.
A big bonus of this product? It’s pH balanced, which means you can use it anywhere with no irritation. This is something I never thought of when it comes to a shave aid, but it’s essential!
After buying this, I immediately unwrapped it and put it in my shower. It’s the size of a large bar of soap, but is a perfect square. It’s a cream color and feels similar to a bar of soap, but not waxy or anything.
Admittedly, I wasn’t entirely sure how to use it but it’s super easy. I lathered it into my hands with water and it foamed up some. I rubbed it on my legs and got to shaving.
I immediately noticed a few things. For starters, while it does seem similar to a soap in that it’s a bar that foams, it didn’t run down my leg. It stayed put until I shaved it off, and it was not drying at all.
I could tell my legs were silky smooth right away!
I also used it to shave my underarms, which I’ve never used any shaving cream or oil there (am I weird for that?) and it was perfect.
There’s no artificial fragrance, and I didn’t notice any scent while using it. I do like scents, but I know they can be damaging, and it’s nice to know nothing will compete with other scents I use in my beauty routine.
I truly am so impressed with this bar, and now I’m excited to try others in the line.
There’s currently just one Shave Butter Bar, but some of the ones I’d like to try include the Solid Body Scrub and the Coconut Oil Deep Moisturizing Hair Conditioner Bar.
I’m so excited about this product and am happy to be using less plastic! I’ll report back on how long a single bar lasts me 🙂
Have you tried any “solid” bar products?
