I’m going to be honest with you. It’s Friday night; I’m sitting on my couch having a glass of wine and watching season three of “Only Murders in the Building” while writing this.
I’m well aware that, right now, with all that’s going on in the world, it might be wrong for me to publish a post reviewing a French press.
It sort of seems like everything is trivial right now, but I’m desperately trying to take a break from looking at the news (I recognize what a privilege it is to be able to look away) and take care of myself.
And tonight, that looks like fall-ish TV, grenache, and writing a blog post. If you need a bit of a break, too, read on. If not, feel free to save this read for another day.

I got a Fellow Clara French Press for my birthday, which was in July. There are two reasons I wanted a French press.
Before I go any further, a French press is a manual coffee brewer that creates a concentrated, flavorful brew.
I hadn’t used one until last summer when I house-sat for my friend Katrina, who exclusively used one.
She was gifted a Fellow Clara from her job and said she thought I’d enjoy using it.
I had to Google the directions, but it was pretty simple. A fill line was inside the press for the coffee grounds, and a second line for boiling water. Give a stir, put the lid on, let sit for 3-ish minutes, strain, and pour.
The Folgers coffee coming from the press was DELISH.
But I didn’t think much of it when I returned home.
That is, until February when I lost power for three days in the Texas winter storm (the level of PTSD this caused me…).
During those three days, I was very thankful for my gas stove to make hot tea and warm-up meals. I also used it to heat water and make pour-overs.
However, my “manual” pour-over is better when there’s electricity so you can weigh your grounds and keep the water hot. It was less than optimal.
That’s when I remembered the press. The Fellow Clara, in particular, has very thick walls that keep the coffee hot for hours!
I admit, the clear glass French presses are cute, but I’m here for functionality. I wanted something that I could carry outside, was big enough for multiple cups of coffee (the Clara holds 24 ounces), and was easy to clean (it has a non-stick coating).
After having used the Fellow Clara for 3+ months now, I can honestly say this one is a winner.
I don’t use it daily, but probably once a week. I like to use it when I get a new-to-me bag of coffee beans or on a morning when I’m in the mood for a ritual.
I’ve taken the press on my patio so I don’t have to move when I want a refill, and I was especially appreciative of it when I house-sat for a local friend. a few weeks ago. They had a coffeemaker, but with this, there was no learning curve.
So far, I love the Fellow Clara French Press and recommend it to any coffee lover! It would even be good for someone who doesn’t drink enough for a large coffee machine but likes making it at home occasionally.
