Austin, Texas, welcomed fall with a pretty intense hail storm! I was watching TV in my living room and started hearing a racket… I opened my back patio door and was nearly pelted with golfball-sized hail.
Aside from a shattered candle holder and a ripped window screen, I didn’t see any major damage, but it was very loud for a good 20 minutes — and I think kitty Blanche thought the roof was coming down.
But I’m here to share a good read with you all: “Dreamland” by Nicholas Sparks.
I’ve been a Nicholas Sparks fan for many years, and try to keep up with his new books — I’m 99% sure I’ve read all of his previously published books.
I bought this one at a book sale to benefit the library I frequent, and it sounded so good.
“Dreamland” is the story of Colby, an aspiring musician who works daily, running his family’s farm in North Carolina. His family encourages him to take a vacation, so he heads to St. Pete Beach, plays music at some of the beach bars, and meets another aspiring musician, Morgan.
While Colby and Morgan are falling in love on the beach, the book turns to another story featuring Beverly, who is trying to make a home after she and her son run away from an abusive relationship.
The book moves back and forth between Colby and Morgan’s story and Beverly’s story. What will happen when the vacation is over? Will Beverly succeed in creating a new, safe life?
I read this book quickly, as it does have some suspenseful moments!
If you’re a fan of Nicholas Sparks’ books (or similar styles), I’d definitely recommend this one.
