July Charity: Gen-Z for Change.

When I came up with the idea to donate to a different charity or cause each month, I made a list of causes I might consider each month. For example, my donations could go to support the LGBTQ+ community in June since June is Pride month.

For July, my note was precisely this: “Freedom?”

I don’t know about you, but as a woman, it feels like I don’t have many freedoms right now.

However, I still wasn’t sure where I wanted to put my July funds.

That is until I found a story trending online a few nights ago. Republican Representative Matt Gaetz publicly body-shamed a 19-year-old abortion activist.

I will not go into the details because the things he said are disgusting.

But, the activist is a part of an organization called Gen-Z for Change. She used the online attention from Gaetz as a way to raise nearly $300,000 for abortion care in just two days.

I’m sure she’ll have raised even more by the time you read this!

After seeing this story, I immediately made my July donation.

What I love about Gen-Z for Change is that they work to support several issues, including racial justice, gun safety, and criminal justice.

I donated to the Gen-Z for Choice Fund, which splits money across abortion funds into all 50 states.

I am sad that we have to donate to something like this because abortion is healthcare, and it should be accessible to anyone, no matter what.

However, I’m grateful I found this organization and happy to see people turning something wrong into something better.
