Blanche’s Book Club: ‘A Very Punchable Face.’

As I sat down to write this, I realized we’re more than halfway through October and I’ve barely read anything this month! Ugh.

This is why audiobooks have been the hero of my book life this year — I can listen while I clean or work or eat dinner… so, I’m happy to share another good one with you today: “A Very Punchable Face” by Colin Jost.

Colin Jost is one of the hosts of “Weekend Update” on Saturday Night Live (SNL), and admittedly, I wanted to read this book because I believe him to be the two best things a man can be: 1. hot, and 2. funny.

Okay, kidding, but only kind of.

I really had no expectations going into this book and I was pleasantly surprised that not only was it laugh-out-loud funny, but it was also very heartfelt and sweet.

Jost talks about growing up on Staten Island, particularly his childhood, his family, and going to school. He shares a lot about how he got into comedy, and about his love for writing. I really enjoyed hearing about how he got his job at SNL (first as a writer, then moving up to head writer, and then hosting “Weekend Update”).

He also shares a few details about his relationship with Scarlett (very sweet), and I almost teared up at the chapter about his mom. I won’t give anything away, but he has a very riveting story about his mom and the September 11 attacks.

If you’re interested in the audiobook, it’s read by the author, which I very much enjoyed.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in comedy writing or fans of SNL.

I also wanted to note that since tomorrow is the Hallmark Channel’s launch of this year’s Countdown to Christmas, I’ve put all of my holiday items in my Etsy Shop on sale. The items include Hallmark Christmas Movie BINGO cards and sets, printable holiday bookmarks, printable gift tags, and seasonal Instagram highlight icons!
