Wearing: Summersalt Coziest Cashmere blend set.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s still freezing in Austin (it’s 25 degrees currently) and the snow is expected to start falling any minute. As far as I can tell — from looking out my window and scrolling social media — much of the city is shutting down this afternoon and tomorrow, because of the expected winter storm. Bbrrr!

So, instead of pigging out on takeout and donuts (per my original plans), I made a vegan cheese pizza, turned on my electric blanket, and will be cozying up with a book today.

And I’m wearing my festive *new* set from Summersalt! Seriously, this thing is the best. Like some of you, I’m sure, I’ve seen Summersalt on influencers’ pages for the last year or so. While there are a few items I liked, I was a little shocked at the high-end price tag, and never made a purchase.

But, over the last few years, I have really tried to make an effort to understand where my money is going. I don’t want to contribute to fast-fashion or anything that supports cheap labor, massive overseas production and shipping, animal cruelty, etc.

Pretty much anything that’s “cheap” in price, is cheap for a reason — someone or something is paying for that in physical labor, a small paycheck, or environmental damage.

Summersalt has higher prices because its items are eco-friendly and cruelty-free! Many of their pieces — and their packaging — are made from recycled materials.

I can definitely get behind a company like this! However, I made a promise to myself this year that I would make an effort to buy clothing from second-hand shops or online stores, such as ThredUp or Poshmark, as another effort to not contribute to fast-fashion, and to support individual sellers who need income.

So, I have been STALKING these apps for brands I’m interested in, and I was pleasantly surprised how many Summersalt items I’ve found. I’m sure many of you have used Poshmark before, but if you like an item, often the seller will offer you a sale price and/or free shipping.

I somehow stumbled across the Summersalt Cashmere set in my size — the hoodie and the joggers — and it was new with tags! I liked it, and within a week, the seller offered me 10% off and free shipping. It was still pricey, but less expensive than if I would have purchased it from the Summersalt website, plus, I was helping a female seller.

I purchased it immediately and have been wearing it ever since. I love this set! I got the pinot & lava color, and it’s so nice. But honestly, all of the color options on the site are pretty. It is a wool and cashmere blend so if you’re not a fan of the way wool feels, I wouldn’t go for it. But the fit is so nice, and it’s warm! Plus, there’s something so put together about a matching set, even when I’m just at home with kitty Blanche 🙂

Summersalt is officially on my radar (I actually just bought something else from them, off Poshmark) and I’ll be getting more as I can find it on a second-hand app! If you haven’t tried Poshmark, you can use code THEBITTERLEMON and get $10 off your first purchase.

Have you ever purchased anything from Summersalt? What items should I be on the hunt for? I am interested in a swimsuit, but I also want a fleece half-zip and something in the French terry…

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely Valentine’s Day!
