My Journey With Teeth Whitening
Remember when at-home teeth whitening became so popular and everyone was using toothpaste and whitening strips? I do! Because I tried them all.
The strips have always made my teeth hurt, but weirdly — and this might gross you out — anytime I used whitening toothpaste, I would get this white film on my cheeks. I asked my dentist about it and he said my mouth was SHEDDING.
Ummm. He said I would have to use a gentle whitening toothpaste like Rembrandt. So for many years, I did, but it was so expensive and I don’t remember if it made much of a difference.
For the longest time, I just stopped using them altogether. But then I got my teeth straightened using Invisalign. So, I wanted them to look as nice as possible. I asked my dentist about teeth whitening and they gave me a Crest kit that had the strips and the light that you put in. Have you tried those?? You have to wear the strips for an HOUR and then do the light (you have to hold it against your teeth) for 10 minutes on each row of teeth.
And it still makes my teeth hurt the next day. You’re supposed to use them daily, but because of the sensitivity, I only used them when I felt up for it.

I was so excited to get the charcoal powder because I’ve been wanting to try some sort of charcoal for whitening. The jar is 30g of charcoal powder and after using it for a few months now, I can say this thing is going to last FOREVER.
Out of everything, I think this is my favorite product of theirs because it takes no time at all to use. I dip my toothbrush in the container before brushing my teeth and I brush using this powder. Then I use toothpaste and brush again.
There’s no sensitivity or anything!
As for the premium whitening kit, this comes with three gel pens and the mouthpiece. You put the gel on your teeth using the pen (it has a brush tip) and then you put the mouthpiece in.
The mouthpiece has two light options: a blue light which is for whitening or a mix of blue and red light which whitens and gets rid of bacteria. I always use the mix option and it’s only 10 minutes. Plus, the mouthpiece fits in a way that you do not have to hold it in your mouth. Very convenient.
And… drumroll… NO sensitivity. I am telling you, I kept waiting for it! But these whitening products were made with people like me in mind — it’s really not supposed to harm your enamel or make your teeth hurt.
