It’s Sunday, which means it’s the last day of my Blogging Boot Camp Weekend! It has really been fun meeting new students and conversing with folks who want to share their stories, even though we are all in our own homes.
If you wanted to sign up for the Boot Camp but weren’t able to, I will likely record a similar series of videos for The Bitter Lemon Patreon members and for purchase — be on the lookout for that very soon!
Anyway, let’s jump right in to the latest read from Blanche’s Book Club — it’s a series, but we’ll just cover book one today. It’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty” by Jenny Han. Here’s the book’s description:
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer—they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one wonderful and terrible summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
Author Jenny Han was also the author of the three-book series “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” which was incredibly popular and became a Netflix movie!
A friend of mine told me about this “Summer” series after I read the “To All The Boys” series and she said she loved this summer series even more than that one.
So, I was really pumped when I saw the digital library had the entire series.
In general, this book was good. It’s a very sweet story of a budding summer romance and it does a great job of capturing life in beach towns.
There was a few twists in there, but some of the chapters felt sliiiiightly childish to me. However, with each book the main character — Belly — gets older, so I am continuing on to book two!
I would recommend this book if you like beachy rom coms 🙂
We’ll cover book two in another post, but it’s called “It’s Not Summer Without You” … PS. I really love all of the covers for these books!
Hope you’re all enjoying your Sunday – cheers!
