I did 30 face masks in 30 days.

It’s July 1st! You probably didn’t know it, but for the month of June, I decided to do one facial mask per night, making it a 30 masks in 30 days project.

Why? More like why not? I have an ABUNDANCE of skincare products already in my bathroom, and I figured… a lot of these I’ve saved for a rainy day or kept for traveling… and it’s likely there won’t be any travel for awhile.

So, why not make some fun of this crappy situation… and see what it does to my skin? I dug through my stash and tried to pick a mix of masks — some that I’d done and loved, some that weren’t ever opened, some that were more expensive, some that were cheap, and ones that covered all different skincare needs and were different types of masks, such as sheet masks, clay masks, peel-off masks, and exfoliating mud masks… there’s even a rubber mask.

I documented my journey in real-time by taking videos and photos each night and posted them to my Instagram account @OrangeJuliu7. Surprisingly, many of my followers have enjoyed the journey, and shared some of their experiences with face masks or ones they wanted to try.

So, today I wanted to share the roundup with you and tell you my favorite ones of the bunch… and oh yeah, I’ll let you know how my skin is doing. Let’s get into it:

Day 1: Purlisse Blue Lotus Seed Mud Mask

When I started this project, I figured I would use whatever mask fit my skin’s needs that day. So, I kicked things off with an exfoliating mask and I continue to be impressed by the products from Purlisse.

Day 2: Vanity Planet Luminous Repair Sleeping Mask

I got this for Christmas, but was waiting to open it until I polished off some of my other masks. Oh well. This one smells SO good — very similar to the Vanity Planet daily face wash, if you’ve used that. I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again, I love a sleep mask; it’s the lazy girl’s way to a glow. I loved this mask!

Day 3: SpaLife Pore Tightening Egg White Cream Mask

I think I’ve used this one before and I’m always fascinated by egg white masks (popular in Korean beauty routines) because the thought of it kind of grosses me out but they always leave my skin feeling soft and clean. Pore tightening though? I feel like any pore-shrinking or pore-tightening product is likely bullshit.

Day 4: Masque Bar Blue Glitter Peel Off Mask

Love colorful glitter! This one was really blue with lots of glitter and it wasn’t a painful peel-off. If you’ve done a few peel-off masks you know what I mean. This was a fun one!

Day 5: Purlisse Watermelon Energizing Sheet Mask

Remember last summer when watermelon was alllll the skincare rage?! I bought these then, but they are still so refreshing and great. Again, Purlisse is killing it.

Day 6: Ulta Beauty Blueberries & Yogurt Skin Balancing Superfood Mud Mask

Ulta has tons of these mud masks that serve different skin needs and they are in capped pouches with enough product in them for 3-4 uses, so I bought several for travel. Well, I’m locked in the house so here we go. I liked that it didn’t dry out and it felt nourishing. I felt like the mud was kind of difficult to squeeze out of the pouch, but I would still repurchase.

Day 7: Malin +Goetz Brightening Enzyme Mask

This one came in a Birchbox and it said to only leave on the skin for 5 minutes. To me, this meant it was powerful stuff… but I don’t recall having any sort of particular reaction to my skin the next day.

Day 8: Kana Lavendar Hemp Sleeping Mask

Early this year I got a CBD Discovery Kit from Birchbox and this was in it. This mask smells SO good. It’s creamy and light, and it really is a treat to to put on before bed. I don’t notice a huge difference in my skin, but I’m going to use the rest of the jar I have and if I caught it on sale, I’d buy the full-size jar.

Day 9: Acure Seriously Soothing Biocellulose Mask

This was a clean beauty purchase and the mask itself was made from fermented coconut… it really felt nice on the skin! However, the cut of the sheet was actually really strange and it felt uncomfortable to wear.

Day 10: Aveeno Positively Radiant Maxglow No-Mess Sleep Mask

This is one I’ve had in my stash for awhile. It’s a standard mask; nothing special. I feel like Aveeno dumped a lot of cash into marketing this Maxglow line, and it’s not cheap for a drugstore brand. Meh.

Day 11: Uluru Australian Red Clay Purifying Mask

This one was LUXURY. It’s very, very similar feeling to the Red Clay cleanser from BareMinerals, which is… chef’s kiss! My skin felt so clean and fresh the next day after using this mask.

Day 12: Lapcos Skin First Oil Wrap Mask

This one came in an Easter gift basket from my mom. I’d never heard of this brand before but it’s one of the nicest sheet masks I’ve ever used — it had several different oils in it and it felt natural and nourishing.

Day 13: Vita Liberata Self Tanning Night Moisture Mask

I’ve had this one in my stash for a long time, and I almost gave up on it. I decided to add it to this project and told myself that if it didn’t work this time, I’d toss it. So, I glopped it all over my face and, you guessed it, when I woke up the next morning I had an uneven, Trump-ish tan! The video I made of this still has me laughing.

Day 14: Hora Overnight Exfoliating Mask

This was another goodie in the CBD kit. I wouldn’t say it exfoliates the skin, but it helped even out my sunless tan lines from the night before — ha!

Day 15: Ulta Beauty Prickly Pear & Aloe Vera Hydrating Superfood Mud Mask

This is another mud mask in a pouch and I really liked the way this one felt. Plus, it was a cool green color, which I always feel is classic for a mud mask.

Day 16: Sei Bella Refining Sheet Mask

This is from Melaleuca and I’ve used their sheet masks several times. I’ll say this… they are standard sheet masks. Nothing bad, nothing special, but if you need a pack, they do the job.

Day 17: Epielle Brightening & Firming Santa

I got this one for Christmas, as it’s made to make your face look like Santa himself. Of course, it’s a white Santa and all I have to say is #JusticeForBlackSanta

Day 18: Boscia Luminizing Black Mask

This is a peel off mask and it honestly feels like you’re slapping tar on your face… but wow does it really pull out all of the gunk!

Day 19: BareMinerals Claymates Be Firm

This is one I’ve used before and it’s the only BareMinerals product I do not love. Like some of these other masks, there’s nothing wrong with it, but nothing that stands out, especially for the price point.

Day 20: TonyMoly Vitalizing I’m Rose Mask Sheet

TonyMoly is my favorite Korean skincare brand and I bought a box of like 15 sheet masks. This was one of them and it smelled like a bouquet!

Day 21: Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque

I bought this during a 5x the points day at Ulta and splurged on this one. It had amazing reviews and then after I bought it, one of my favorite influencers said this was her all-time favorite mask. I really love it! It has little bits of cranberry in it to exfoliate the skin.

Day 22: TonyMoly Master Lab Hyaluronic Acid

Anything with hyaluronic acid in it is a game changer, if you ask me. This was a good follow up to the Kiehl’s mask to add moisture back into my skin.

Day 23: Pixi Plump Collagen Boost

I got a box of these last summer as a birthday gift and I think this was the last one in the pack. I cannot really tell if they gave my skin a collagen boost, but it feels nice on the skin.

Day 24: Mask a-‘peel’ rubberizing mask

This one is so fun! It’s a powder in a pod that you add water to and it turns to rubber on your skin. Peels off in one big piece and honestly, leaves your skin feeling minty and refreshed.

Day 25: Ulta Beauty Turmeric & Ginger Brightening Superfood Mud Mask

The final mud mask in a pouch and now I feel like turmeric is trendy… amirite? My skin felt really nice the next day!

Day 26: Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask

I was so excited to find this in my stash because I have tried the 72-hour moisturizer from this line and it’s amazing. I was surprised to see that this is a cream-based mask and not a gel like the moisturizer, and it was nice, but not as impressive.

Day 27: Ulta Beauty Instaglow Dry Sheet Mask

This is one of my favorite Ulta brand products! It’s a completely dry sheet mask that you can use up to three times and it comes in a re-sealable pouch. It’s one of the ONLY glow-type products that actually makes a difference in my skin.

Day 28: BareMinerals Claymates Be Bright

Another average mask from BareMinerals. Love the brand; I just think this was a big miss. However, I will say that after I used this and woke up on day 29, my skin looked GREAT. I don’t know if my skin was just now realizing I did 28 masks in a row or if it was this mask. I assume the former, but I’ll use it again and report back.

Day 29: Pacifica Wake Up Beautiful Super Hydration Sleepover Mask

This is my favorite sleep mask. It’s affordable, creamy, and it dries really fast so there’s no mess on the pillow. It also makes my skin look soft and refreshed when I wake up.

Day 30: Oh K! Purifying Colour Changing Mood Mask

This was the largest disappointment of the bunch because it DID NOT CHANGE COLORS. I kept it on for two hours, waiting and waiting for it to change! Ugh.

Of the new masks I tried, I loved the Red Clay mask, the Vanity Planet overnight mask and the Kiehl’s Turmeric mask.

But, I had a lot of fun with this… I am planning on doing another similar project with my mascara in the near future. Thanks for hanging in there with this LONG post!
