I can’t take a trip without making a special playlist! I like having something new to listen to while I’m in the airport, on the plan, and sometimes when I’m sightseeing. When I was in New York, I was almost always listening to music in one ear, while keeping the other ear open for… you know… danger. Or interesting conversations.
For my London playlist, I wanted to mostly focus on artists from England, but also any songs that talked about London or Paris, since I’m going there, too. Here are some of the artists I put on the playlist:
I listened to Jamie Cullum all through college and hearing him now makes me so nostalgic. I love his casual jazzy sound and I’m glad to have him back in my music rotation. I love his covers of “Singing in the Rain” and “All at Sea”, but the entire “Twentysomething” album is fantastic.
Amy Winehouse is one of my favorite artists of all time, and I’m so excited to see her statue during my trip. She inspired so much of my work, my writing, and opened my eyes to a different world and I connected with her lyrics on the “Back to Black” album so deeply.
Melody Gardot is another goodie I used to listen to in college. She’s the real deal though – her voice is so smooth and her songs immediately get me picturing a city night with bright lights and fancy drinks. I had to add “Les étoiles” to this playlist.
I got Queen’s Greatest Hits on vinyl for Christmas and I have the best time marching around my apartment to “Killer Queen”, so you can bet your booty I’ll be skipping through London jamming to Queen.
James Bay is an underrated talent and I love his smooth, yet raspy voice. I don’t think “Let it go” will ever get old, but I love his entire album. I also added his cover of “If I Ain’t Got You” to this playlist.
I didn’t know Fleetwood Mac was from London (silly me!), but I’m glad they are because I always need an excuse to add “Gypsy” to a playlist – that might just be my theme song!
Some other artists on there include Pet Shop Boys, Elton John, Spice Girls, Jamiroquai, Adele, The Police, James Blunt, Sam Smith, Lorde, and Harry Styles.
Feel free to listen to my playlist on Spotify – I hope you love it!
