Watching: ‘Mary Poppins Returns’.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! It’s always sort of a weird feeling that it’s over so quickly after a month (or so) of excitement. I definitely feel like I ate SO much food, and I have so many goodies to enjoy over the next year (lots of makeup and beauty products).

Today is my mom’s last day in town, so we’re just doing a few final things on our list – including fries and shakes at Hopdoddy all while finishing up listening to the “Dirty John” podcast. Has anyone listened to that?

Late Friday night, my mom and I went to see “Mary Poppins Returns”. I’ll be honest here, I am not entirely sure I saw “Mary Poppins” more than once, and I don’t remember loving it.

But, I kept seeing the previews for this one and when I landed in New York, the JFK airport was completely decorated in mixed media ads for it. Plus, how can you pass up Emily Blunt AND Lin-Manuel Miranda in the same movie? Here’s the official movie description from IMDb:

Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives.

So, the Banks kids are all grown up, but really going through troubled times as Michael Banks’ wife and mother of his children has recently passed.

She kept up with the household, and now, the family mansion is up for foreclosure – which could leave Michael and his kids with nowhere to live. In comes Mary Poppins – just the right person to take the kids’ mind off their troubles.

I absolutely loved the set, the songs, and the costumes in this movie. However, it was a little more “made for kids” than I expected, which probably sounds ridiculous. It was also LONG – it’s well over two hours, and I don’t know if that seemed like torture because it was the 10:30 pm showing, but I think they could have cut out a few scenes.

But as a whole, it was fun, and I really enjoyed the overall themes in the movie. Plus, they paid homage to the original songs and many of the new tunes have the same melodies, just different lyrics.

It was good!

What are you guys up to between now and New Year’s? Work? No work? I’m going to get in a little bit of work and a few yoga classes, but I think I’m going to take things pretty easy. I’ll still be here! 🙂
