My Summer Thrift Finds.

Over Memorial Day weekend, I came across a sale at ThredUp — the largest online second-hand clothing store — and couldn’t resist buying a few items for summer.

I didn’t have plans to shop for clothes at the time, but I’d just finished reading “American Dreamer” (Tommy Hilfiger’s memoir (my full review of it is here), and I wanted to see what Tommy pieces they had.

Before I share what Hilfiger items I found, let’s talk about second-hand swimsuits.

I never thought about buying second-hand swimsuits, but there were SO many cute ones on ThredUp!

I know some people may not be down for buying already-worn swimsuits, but when I really thought about it — and looked at the price of new, eco-friendly suits — I decided I didn’t really care (ha!).

A new, eco-friendly suit costs approximately $120, while most of the suits I bought from ThredUp cost around $15 (one cost $9).

On ThredUp, you can sort items based on their quality. For example, you can look for items that are new with tags or “excellent” (no signs of wear), and so forth.

Before I put any suits in my cart, I looked through my current collection. I realized I hadn’t purchased any swimwear in at least two summers. I have one suit that I’d consider nice enough to wear to a party or with friends, and the others I have are really worn — I can still wear them, but they’re not necessarily cute or flattering.

I measured myself, sorted the suits by my sizes, and got to looking. I ended up with four suits for less than $60!

When the suits arrived, I tried them on just as I would at a store. When they all fit and I knew I was keeping them, I hand-washed them and they’re good to go.

I’ve already worn three of them to the pool and am SO happy with these finds. I never would have been able to afford a “swimsuit wardrobe” like this without thrifting.

I also bought some Tommy Hilfiger pieces — my first ever! When I searched for the brand, there were 35+ pages of items… wow!

I wasn’t in a hurry, and I really love sifting through things to see what’s available. I didn’t want to spend much, nor do I need lots of clothes, but if I saw some pieces I couldn’t live without, I’d let myself get it.

I ended up with four items: a navy jumpsuit, a chambray button-down, a black and white polka-dot dress, and gray sweats.

Tommy Hilfiger pieces I thrifted

I cannot resist a soft pair of sweatpants! These are boyfriend style (a baggy fit) and have the brand embroidered down the leg (I love details like this).

The other pieces seemed more classic to me, and when they arrived, I was excited to discover all of the Hilfiger details (he discussed these in his memoir), such as the silver “H” hardware on the jumpsuit straps, the tag and a ribbon-work on the inside of the chambray shirt, and the branded metal buttons on the dress.

I love all of it!

I saw several Hilfiger pieces more fit for fall and winter, and although they will likely sell before I’m ready to buy them, I’m glad to know there will be options for me later.

I’m cleaning out my closet (big time) and am making a list of any pieces I feel I’ll “need.”

I’ve been shopping at ThredUp for years and am always impressed with the quality of the clothing they sell (and how they are wrapped for shipping).

To be fully transparent, I had a negative experience buying a gift card from ThredUp this spring, but other than that, I have loved shopping with them.
