I went out of town last week, and as I was packing my toiletries, I realized I hadn’t shared a review of my toothbrush yet!
Normally, I wouldn’t think twice about a toothbrush, but I’ve been on a bit of a journey with my toothbrush over the last few years.
It started a few jobs ago (ugh). I was working at a startup, and they had dental insurance that I’d never heard of — I wouldn’t be shocked if the insurance company was also a startup.
Anyway, as part of the insurance, the company mailed me an oral care kit that included an electric toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss.
I’ve tried all sorts of electric toothbrushes over the years, and since this one was free, I used it. It was fine, but nothing special.
Unfortunately, I was laid off from that job after seven months, which meant no more dental insurance or free dental supplies (among other things, of course).
So, here I was with an insurance toothbrush, and when it was time to replace the brush head, I couldn’t get a replacement (it was an insurance-branded brush).
The more I write about this, the weirder it sounds!
I was in no shape to buy anything fancy, so I went back to using a manual toothbrush and just bought a pack of five bamboo toothbrushes from a brand called “Made By Dentists.”
I looked a little more into the brand, and it was started by two female dentists who are on a mission to educate consumers about oral health. Their brand sells toothbrushes and toothpaste, along with oral care products for kids.
I have used bamboo toothbrushes for years and started buying their whitening toothpaste (which I love).
I didn’t mind using the manual toothbrushes, but when I went to refill my toothpaste this summer, I saw their electric toothbrush.
It was a reasonable price, and I had lots of Ulta points I could use to get it — so I bought it.
I got their Sonic Toothrush in rose gold (it comes in white, too).
When I got the toothbrush, I immediately charged it so I could use it that night (that was months ago and I haven’t had to recharge it yet).
I’ll admit it: my first time using it, it tickled my gums! I realized then how long it’d been since I used an electric toothbrush!
I quickly got used to it, and although a manual toothbrush does a fine job of cleaning your teeth, there’s nothing quite like the feeling you get when you use a good electric toothbrush.
The toothbrush on this one is shaped similarly to a manual toothbrush instead of a rotating round brush, which I like. It also has three cleaning modes — sensitive, clean, and whiten — to customize your brushing experience depending on your needs.
Many years ago, someone gifted me a fancy Philips Sonicare toothbrush, and the Made By Dentists brush offers a comparable clean for a more affordable price.
So far, I’m loving my toothbrush — I especially love that it has a two-minute timer and 30-second alerts so you can evenly clean each quadrant of your mouth.
If you’re in the market for a new electric toothbrush, check this one out!
I’ll also say that I still regularly buy the bamboo toothbrush packs — I prefer using them for travel since they are smaller, and if I’m ever sick, I use one of those instead of replacing an entire toothbrush head.
