In 2020, I made a vow to make more of an effort to be eco-friendly. These efforts have stretched into several areas of my life over the years, but I’m always trying to find MORE ways to make a difference.

Over the last six months, I’ve found a few more home items to add to my list — you can see the original list here!

Here’s what I’ve been buying:

Ziploc Recyclable Paper Bags

I stopped using plastic Ziploc bags a long time ago. Generally speaking, things that are single-use contribute so much waste. I typically use reusable zipper bags or small containers for items I need to pack.

But, when I was working retail, I was working so many shifts I couldn’t keep up with washing all of my containers. I needed something that I could put a sandwich or chips in to take with me, and I didn’t want it to be harmful to the earth.

So, I found these recyclable paper bags! They come with stickers to seal them and did the job perfectly. They won’t hold anything liquid or too messy, but they’re perfect for packing snacks or lunch to-go.

Plant-based tall kitchen bags

For a while, I was using trash bags made from recycled plastic, which was fine… but I wanted to see what else was out there.

I quickly found a brand called Hippo Sak that makes all sorts of bags made from either plants or ocean-bound plastic. I’ve been using the tall kitchen bags for trash, and not only do they hold up great, but each bag has two handles (like a plastic grocery bag would), so you can easily tie them shut!

Hand Soap Tablets

I have soap dispensers in my kitchen and bathroom… but it was time I find a solution for the plastic bottles the soap was coming in. Enter: Hand soap tablets.

Much like tablet detergent, you drop a hand soap tablet into your dispenser, add water, and voila! You’ve got a foaming hand soap that didn’t use plastic.

There are several brands and scents to choose from. I’m currently using the Blueland brand, and they are. certified B Corp, which I love.

… Those are the eco-friendly products I’m using around here! What kinds of sustainable products do you like?
