Over a year ago, I splurged and bought myself a *fancy* coffeemaker: the Hamilton Beach Automatic or Manual Pour-Over Coffee Brewer.
For decades prior, I used a standard drip coffee machine, which I loved! But, I had one for barely a year and it completely stopped working. I tried everything I could to fix it, with no luck.
I’m a bit of a coffee lover (I don’t want to say addict, but possibly that’s a sign?) and the thought of waking up to none of it was just not an option.
So, I thought if I invested in a nicer machine, this wouldn’t happen. A year later, and things are still going strong, but I know paying more for something doesn’t necessarily mean it’s nicer.
This coffeemaker has different features than any drip machine I’ve had, which is why I like it. Some of the features include:
- Making barista-quality pour-over coffee. There’s a built-in scale to measure your grounds and water, plus a showerhead that pours evenly over the coffee.
- Go manual or automatic. An automatic pour-over does the work for you (this is the option I choose), but if you like the ritual of creating a manual pour-over, you can do it that way!
- Create a custom cup (or an entire pot) of coffee. There are five different brew strengths and two heat settings that you choose before brewing.
- Set the timer for hot coffee upon wakeup. This is the feature all coffeemakers should have. I don’t use it every day, but it’s so handy on early, busy mornings.
Compared to the standard drip coffeemakers I had in the past, the price of this one gave me a little shock. But, when I asked friends what coffeemakers they used and loved, theirs were pricier than this one!
I’ll be honest, I hadn’t had a pour-over prior to getting this coffeemaker! I suppose, on one hand, that I didn’t know what I was missing. It’s a popular way of brewing coffee that highlights intricate flavors. If you’re someone who really cares about the flavor of coffee, this brewer may be for you!
What coffeemaker do you use?
