I shared last week that I stopped drinking alcohol during the week and have been trying various non-alcoholic drinks, including beer.
So far, the brand I’ve latched onto is Athletic Brewing Co. I started by just trying one flavor, and then I liked it so much I bought four more, and now I’m hooked!
I figured I’d do a little review of each non-alcoholic beer I’ve tasted, just in case you’re considering giving them a try.
Remember, these are all from Athletic Brewing Co.; no affiliation here, it’s just the one I’ve been trying!
Here goes:
Upside Dawn | Golden
The Upside Dawn was the first non-alcoholic beer I tried. I was genuinely shocked at how much it tasted like an actual beer! I kept buying cans of it, one at a time, and even took them on a road trip, before I tried other options.
This is light-bodied with a slight citrus flavor that’s perfect for warmer months. Typically, golden ales are known for easy drinking and this one definitely goes down smooth. The Upside Dawn is a best-seller!
Tropical Reset | Sour
I saw the Topical Reset on Athletic Brewing Co.’s Instagram account and HAD to have it — and I’ve never even been a fan of sours! It’s described as a pina colada sour with pineapple, coconut, and citrus. I’m happy to report that this one is delicious; it’s still a beer so the flavors are subtle, but perfect for a seasonal option. The sad part is, this flavor was limited, so it’s already gone, but I’m sure it will be back!
Geralt’s Gold | Helles
This one has really cool packaging and is also, sadly, a limited run — swear I didn’t do this on purpose. But, this Helles was inspired by “The Witcher” on Netflix (a fantasy about a monster hunter).
Helles is a traditional German pale lager beer produced chiefly in Southern Germany, particularly Munich. This one has peach, citrus, and floral notes — yum!
Free Wave | Hazy IPA
Athletic has a beer quiz that will guide you to your perfect NA beer! I took it, and the Free Wave was my answer, so I got a pack. IPAs typically highlight the hops in the beer and this one has Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic hops. If you like IPAs, this one is easy-drinking and would be good for any occasion.
Wit’s Peak | Witbier
I can’t lie, the packaging hooked me on this one. But, I do love Belgian beers and the Witbier is a Belgian-style white. It’s got flavors of wheat, malt, spices (think: coriander), and citrus — yum! This beer is smooth and perfect for fall.
Overall, I’ve been so impressed with these non-alcoholic beers! On the one-hand, the limited-edition flavors can be frustrating if they’re delicious and go out-of-stock, but on the other hand, it means there are always new flavors becoming available.
As I write this, Athletic is promoting their Oktoberfest option — sounds pretty good!
