We made it to Friday! This has been a slow work week for me and although I’m always appreciative of the break, there’s a natural part of me that freaks out a little wondering if and when the work will return. The pandemic has made me feel like I can never be prepared for what’s coming, and if I don’t have a savings account with money to cover my bills, I get worried.

Of course, slow weeks happened before the pandemic, but they were very infrequent. Over the last year of ups and downs, I’ve learned to fill my “slow” weeks with personal projects — the blog, Patreon projects, my Etsy Shop, etc. — an of course, I do try and get a bit of extra rest.

I’m working on a post for this weekend on my year in Quarantine. I almost don’t even want to think about it, you know? But I know I’ve come so far and I do feel like things are slowly getting better.

But today, I’m excited to share a product from a brand that’s local to Austin AND it’s woman-founded!

I’m talking about Olive + M’s Purify + Rejuvenate Cleansing Oil.

I actually discovered Olive + M at an event I went to (when those were still a thing) that gave out big goodie bags. Inside the bag was a sample set of Olive + M products. There was the Hydrate + Glow Body Oil, the Renew + Repair Face Oil, and the Purify + Rejuvenate Cleansing Oil.

When I saw the sampler set, I was excited — I love any kind of skincare and I am always looking for products that are simple and natural and good for my skin. I also loved the packaging and branding.

Even though the bottles were sample size, you don’t need much product each time you use them. I’ve officially used every drop of all the products, but I wanted to specifically share the cleansing oil because… I think there’s something luxurious about cleansing your face with oil.

I think there’s a big misconception that using an oil-based cleanser or using serums will make your skin oily. But oil erases oil. Every time I use an oil cleanser, my skin feels so hydrated and nourished.

The cool thing about this one from Olive + M is that it’s a mix of oils that will care for your skin. Olive + M’s founder has a culinary background, and this is where it comes in handy. Here’s what’s in the cleansing oil:

  • Olive oil: This an antimicrobial properties to protect the skin, plus Vitamin A and E to renew.
  • Castor seed oil: The fatty acids in this fight acne and promote collagen production.
  • Hemp seed oil: This is anti-inflammatory so it soothes dry or irritated skin.
  • Sunflower seed oil: This has Vitamins C, E, and A that all promote cell turnover for a fresh face!

This oil doesn’t have a heavy scent, but I do want to mention it because it’s got a very light citrus scent that was one thing I really loved about using it.

I really enjoyed creating a little spa experience with it, and steaming my face first, then cleaning with this, and following with the face oil. Mmm!

Do you use a cleansing oil? What are some of your favorite brands?
