This one came just in time for Halloween! In “The Ghost at Dawn’s House,” Dawn is obsessed with Nancy Drew books and anything spooky.
So, she sets out to find a secret passage in her house, just like there are in the books she reads. And she finds one!
The secret passageway goes from the barn to her bedroom and is big enough to walk all the way through.
Even though reading this as an adult seemed a little silly, it reminded me of being a kid a looking for exciting things like this.
Of course, though, finding the passage wasn’t enough… then Dawn starts to hear noises coming from it. HELL NO.
I won’t give away any spoilers, but the book ends with a very sweet Baby-sitters Club slumber party that made everyone in the book club (why I’m reading these) look back on slumber parties we had.
It was funny hearing about everyone’s memories and recalling such sweet times… and talking with some of the parents in the group now, it seems like slumber parties are a thing of the past.
I still am not sure how I feel about Dawn as a character and as a narrator, but I did enjoy this book. It was cute, and I think Ann M. Martin was able to capture this part of being a teen very well.
Book 10 of The Baby-Sitters Club is “Logan Likes Mary Anne”… OoOoOoOo!
