I feel a bit silly writing about shampoo on a day like today — a day when so many are mourning the loss of the great Kobe Bryant and his daughter. I went back and forth about posting this, but I know I’m not an authority on Kobe, on basketball, on the NBA, or anything of the sort.
However, I do know that losses like these reach far and wide. Even the loss of celebrities or people we never knew personally can hit really hard. Often, these kinds of losses drudge up memories of a loss we knew closer, and the pain is that much worse.
I remember the day when Amy Winehouse died. I walked into a restaurant to meet a friend for lunch and he held up his phone and said he didn’t know if it was real or not. I was shocked and so, so sad. All day I walked around in a haze and I remember other people thinking I was weird for being so affected, but you never know how you’ll react to something until it happens.
When I saw the news yesterday, I screamed in my empty apartment. WHAT?! I couldn’t believe it. I did what many of us probably did and hoped it was fake and kept searching for a credible source to say it was not real.
But when it turned out to be true, I turned to Rick Reilly — my favorite sports journalist — for his words. I looked to Shaq, to LeBron, to all of the tributes that poured in. We will see so many tributes in the coming days and months, and I pray for peace for his family, and for all of us, too.
There’s no great way to transition to the shampoo, so let’s just get into it. I have basically been totally won over by DryBar, so when I saw the Double Standard Cleansing and Conditioning Foam at TJ Maxx I snatched it right up.
I’ve used it a few times and it’s an interesting product. The word “foam” made me think it was going to be really light and airy when I pumped it from the container, but it’s actually incredibly rich and creamy! It feels more like a shaving cream texture than a foam. It doesn’t leave behind any residue, works fine with my colored hair, and smells pretty delicious.
When I did a little research on it, it was technically made for those who need to wash their hair a lot — which is why it does two jobs in one move, and why it’s moisturizing. I definitely do NOT wash my hair a lot (once per week) but I was pleasantly surprised with the two-in-one quality, as they usually suck.
This would be good for a gym bag or travel, and I’m glad I bought it! What are some of your favorite two-in-one products?
