Blanche’s Book Club: ‘Mad Honey.’

I follow authors Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke, and not only are they fabulous writers, but they offer fantastic book recommendations!

If it weren’t for their recommendation, I wouldn’t have picked up “Mad Honey” by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finlay Boylan, and it’s one of my favorite reads of the year (so far).

This book follows Olivia, a single-mom post-divorce (from an abusive relationship) and a beekeeper. Her son, Asher, is dating a new girl at school, Lily.

Lily’s mom is also starting over, and they’re all making due in this New Hampshire town. In a tragic turn of events, Lily ends up dead, and the local police have one suspect: Asher.

Olivia and Asher swear over his innocence, but who killed Lily? A jury will determine Asher’s fate, although the town already has.

This book combines the fascinating life and work of bees with human nature, gender, and small-town living.

I could not put this book down! I loved learning all of the information about bees but also weaving together the clues about what happened to Lily. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time — would definitely recommend it!
