Have you ever used an essence?? I don’t think I’ve even heard of them until this year.
From what I have gathered, a skin essence is something that helps boost your skincare routine. It became popular from Korean skincare regimens and I think certain types of essence can target different things.
For example, some essences might be for hydrating your skin while others might be for anti-aging.
I got an essence in a Birchbox a few months ago. It was the TIRTIR Rosemary One Essence. Here’s the scoop on it:
This deeply hydrating essence is made from 100% Jeju Rosemary extract, known to be a powerful skin-soother. Adding an essence to your skincare routine helps to prep your skin to more effectively absorb subsequent products like serum & moisturizer, by allowing active ingredients to penetrate deeper into your skin.
The part about it helping your skin absorb the products you put on after… I have heard this from multiple sources. So, put on your essence before an important serum or moisturizer.
Honestly, I loved the Rosemary essence! However, I had never tried one, so I had nothing to compare it to. So, I got the Philosophy Purity Hydra-Essence.
Here’s the scoop on this one: Power-up your purity regimen with an instant boost of hydration with Philosophy’s Purity Hydra-Essence. Infused with natural coconut water, vitamin b5 and c derivate, this pre-moisturizer prep step adds a base layer of hydration, and instantly leaves skin brighter, softer, nourished.
The two main differences between the two are: 1. the scent, and 2. the weight. The Rosemary one obviously smells like rosemary, while the Philosophy one has more of a light floral smell. Both smell good 🙂
I know “weight” is probably not the right way to explain it, but the Rosemary one is very light and almost feels like a toner. The Philosophy one feels heavier on the skin, almost like an oil but it’s not oily. I’d say go with this one if you have dry skin or get dry skin in the colder months.
I have been using this essence every night as my bedtime routine. I wash my face, then use toner, retinol, essence, serum, and moisturizer (in this order).
I do think the essence helps my routine and the good news is, you only need a few drops, so one bottle is going to last a year.
I’d love to know what essences you’ve tried!
